• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I read with amusement that Burstboy says the greater bodyfat will give greater sustain. I disagree, a pair of muttonchop sideboards will definitly give you greater sustain thru your Les Paul. As proof of this fact, checkout some period pics of the greats, Beano Clapton, early Fleetwood Pete Green, Savoy Brown Kim Simmonds, Mayall vintage Mick Taylor, sessionman Page need I say anymore, how about Duane with that tobaccoburst 58, what a pair of sideburns he had!Even Bloomfield sported some side whiskers with the Flag and his 54 goldtop was missing some knobs in some pictures! & he got great sustain with all those microbends( what a great player he was!!) I wonder what happened to those knobs? I know Dan Erlewine now has that guitar, but who owns those missing vintage knob(s)? Maybe its the same person who owns the missing vintage knobs off the Freddie King 54 GT, & Freddie had great sustain near the end of his life. I can see in the 70s photos he also had humungus sideboards, hence the sustain, but alas no Paul is seen in his hands.

Actually, Bloomfield got that guitar FROM Dan Erlewine, who really would love to get it back.

Bloomfield GoldtopS

Snags, I read that Mike traded his 54 GT plus $100 to get Erlewines 59 Burst in around 1967, the 59 that is on the Super Session album & can be heard being dropped (ouch!!) on Finale Refugee on The Live Adventures of Mike & Al album, This famous Burst was sold to a collector for the sum of $239,000 last year. I think this is the ax that Dan would like to get back. (hey DAN, offer the guy $200 Plus the goldtop, maybe he will go for it.)

ARMADILLOS.... yeah, thats the ticket!

Side burns help but to get Nigel sustain ya need to have an armadillo in trou. All those limey pooftahs Clapton, Kossoff, Page & especially Beck, used vintage armadillos from West Texas. In the early 60's they were very "hard" to get, as England had rather "stiff" trade restrictions. ;):eek
