Along with the many people displaced and a few who have died (the biggest priority of course), the biggest portion of Joe’s extensive collection is currently at risk as Nerdville West is only a few miles from the fire. Here is hoping that they get it under control and no one else dies and a decent portion of vibtage gear makes it through. 8CCA912F-4A0B-4680-A867-BEEC95E547CB.jpeg

The news on this is almost surreal. First and foremost let's hope these residents find safety and help to rebuild. But then let's ensure some good lessons are learned and changes are implemented to prevent this sort of thing again.

Prayers for all impacted by this tragedy...

... and sending good vibes out to Nerdville, and Joe.

Its hard to comprehend the severity of these fires, especially considering its winter in the Northern Hemisphere! We get our fair share down here in Australia, but usually only in the summer months.

I'm also sending out good vibes for everyone at risk, including all the brave firefighters.

I thought I saw a post on FB from Joe that Nerdville was safe. I haven't been able to find it again - I didn't have a chance to read the whole thing at the time.
He'd said that the best of the best he'd cleared out and brought somewhere safe, but obviously knowing the size of his collection that probably didn't make a dent.

I hope his stuff is safe! God what a shame if any of that is lost on top of everything else.

Where is "Nerdville" anyways? Is he in one of canyons?

As much as I'd agree normally, at this point, the gear is the last thing to worry about, with so many people losing so much.

But Nerdville is near Laurel Canyon, if I remember right. I read that somewhere. Near Holywood Hills and the Sunset Strip.

At lease a portion of the sunset strip was involved. However, the Laura’s Canyon area (just north of West Hollywood appears to be spared according to the maps I can find on line.

Yeah there was a fire right nearby, in the Hollywood Hills just above Franklin Ave. around Runyon Canyon. That was night before last. They got on that one really quickly and kept it from spreading. Amazing job!!

If you follow Joe on X, you'll know the collection is safe for now. The newest problem is, the Pallisades area has turned into Wild West, vigilantism. People are literally having to sneak/violate restriction orders to walk the streets, armed, and question suspicious people in the area. They call themselves, "The Stayers." Looting still goes on.

Joe issued a proclamation of his own; 'looters, don't even try.' An increasingly bad situation precipitated by the breakdown of societal services they paid for.

Now, you may close the thread! (but you know it's true)

Hey doc sausage - thanks for your political analysis of the problem. If you don't live here, you don't know what's going on. You didn't hear people in California bashing the politicians on the south / east because of their response to natural disasters did you? Quite the opposite, actually.
