Anybody have an idea if there are future plans for more Les Paul Custom Lite guitars? I have had four, all of them stellar. I know they are polarizing, but every time somebody plays mine they are blown away with their comfort and tone.

My current one (http://legacy.gibson.com/Products/E...Gibson-USA/Les-Paul-Custom-Classic-Light.aspx) is attached. My absolute fantasy (for those at Gibson that might be listening!) is that same guitar but in Wine Red, axcess neck heel, under 7 pounds... satin finish would be an even bigger bonus!

Yes, I did notice that one, and I love it. Thanks for pointing it out, though! Sadly my shoulder requires under 7 pounds. I unwisely sold a Lite that was under 7 pounds years ago, and have been on a quest ever since!

I’ve been eyeballing a white one for a few years, just pulled the trigger on this one. My wife & I were visiting the Songbird Guitar Museum in Chattanooga TN a few years back. She really liked the white Les Paul Custom they had on display. It isn’t often that your wife actually encourages you to buy yet another guitar…… This model is different than any of my other guitars, along with being white!

Just noticed that Zzounds is selling a Les Paul Classic Lite for $1,899, includes a hard shell case. It has uncovered Classic 57 pickups so different from the the Custom Lite, but it is a current offering.

Always had an eye out for these... I believe these were/are exclusive to dealer-runs, and perhaps based on some contract to buy quantity.

Wish they were normal production and offered in lefty, but with the production backlog, Gibson are probably only doing what they are contractually bound to fill apart from their big selling newer models, and new limiteds, etc.

Enjoy!

AMS is also selling them as an exclusive run being closed out at $1,899. I’ve heard that Zzounds & AMS share the same stock.

Oh man, being a lefty must limit you.

My son is a lefty but he plays righty, thank goodness. I started him lefty at 11 years old but he wanted to play my nicer guitars so he switched to righty. He hits baseballs ambidextrous.

He is 25 now, but after one semester of college he came home and said, “Dad can I plug in?” He was a good player when he left. Then he ripped into a Jimi Hendrix solo and played behind his head and with his teeth. It was epic. I immediately thought, my son has no friends. 🤣. Even though I have been playing since 1986, I tell him that he is a better player than me because he is. But he is humble and responds that we just play different styles of music. I play 80s hair band stuff and he is more old school. I am flashy but he is emotional, if that makes sense. I am good, but he is better, and that makes me very proud.

That's a great tale, thanks for sharing. That type of pride is a good thing, so is the reinforcement!

Being Lefty...

Yeah, it's a limitation to getting what you want. Cue the Stones. But you make do with what you can get, and build from there.

My father tried to convince me to play righty, but I just can't get the swing... I am actually better playing righties upside-down/backwards a la Albert King, Dick Dale, Otis Rush, Doyle Bramhall II, or Eric Gales style! Stems from picking up other's guitars. They don't hazard to do the same.

I have a fabulous stable, more than I hoped for. Not everything I 'want' but that's 'want' in a very spoiled fashion, down to collecting beloved lefty versions of things I desired.

Every basic tonal need has been met in abundance. Now I am just fleshing things out, and really I may consolidate.

Not much vintage though. A 65 SG Junior and 65 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman are the only things I have older than me!

You’re welcome. I’m happy that my son stuck with playing guitar because it has brought me a lifetime of joy and I want the same for him. If I didn’t play guitar my life would be way less fun.

JB, that is wild that you can play an upside down right handed guitars strung up righty. Whenever I see a player doing that I am so impressed. Eric Gales is my favorite example of that. Whenever I see him play, I smile from ear to ear. I also like the faces he makes when he plays.

It’s great that you have built up a collection that you love. A 65 SG Junior is definitely a keeper. Be careful with downsizing because you end up missing some of the things you let go. Because of this thread I am now jonesing for a Les Paul Lite. That is the problem with forums. They put ideas into our heads!

Have a great day!
