• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Like Al said, check the pots. The first year of production, it had a standard size TOM bridge. It switched to the harmonica bridge after that. Serial numbers alone are not enough to date it until they switched to an oval decal sometime in 1975.

Grog has it right. The date code on the pots will tell the story. BTW, the guitar dater project had this to say.

"Your guitar was made at the
Kalamazoo Or Nashville Plant, USA
in 1970, 1971 Or 1972
Production Number: 105001"

Thanks so far guys, its got the harmonica bridge and grovers - they started prod in 71(?) , so id guess its likely 72 from the dater project and Grogs info. Near enough for me - dont fancy stripping screws or arsing up the wiring- shes got 50 years of dings already!! Always thought it was a kinda neat serial no -"001"

It was defiantly made in Kalamazoo, Nashville didn’t open up until sometime in 1975. Here is a shot of my ‘73 for comparison.

Yup! Those are from the last version. Notice they are built on a typical Les Paul body, reduced in size and shape as well as having a maple cap. The older all mahogany larger body was never seen again but the mahogany cap reappeared on that reissue/tribute a while back. Has anyone seen an all mahogany, (mahogany cap), version with the last, regular body size?
