• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I may have the opportunity to acquire an ebony 1998 Studio with chrome hardware and dot inlays. I have searched for information regarding Studios with dot inlays, but have not found much.

Does anyone have information regarding this model?

Thanks.

I had a 98 Studio and that year, they did come with dot inlays. I didn't think it would bother me, but in the end, I wanted the Trapazoids so off that guitar went.... It played and sounded as good as any other guitar. It was purely a "vibe" thing for me.

I can give you no hint about the series, but as an owner of a trapezoid Studio I have to say that dotted ones look MUCH better to me.

I appreciate everyone's responses. I may have the opportunity to trade for the Studio. If the trade goes through, both parties would win. He is looking for an ESP and mine has been in the closet for 10 years. There seems to be no value in Floyd equipped ESPs and I do not care for the thin neck, Floyd, EMGs, etc...

Anyway, I just wanted to do a little research and appreciate all of the responses.

I’m under the impression that due to the tornado that hit The Hermitage in April 1998 (and coincidently the 15 yr milestone for the Studio), Gibson used a lot of MOP on the special “Old Hickory” Les Pauls they made and chose to have only the dot inlays for the Studios that year…
Or maybe not 😉
