• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Study too much and you lose spontaneity, creativeness, emotion. Study too little and you end up boxed-in and playing the same stuff over and over again. I try to mix it up. 50/50 maybe. Half the time hitting the books/online courses, half the time just jamming away freely and not much thinking about it. Working too hard makes me a dull boy:)

BTW Amp360, thanks for the tip on Tomo, I'll check that out.

If you like books check out the Mickey Baker and Howard Roberts courses. They're both really great for self study!

I've been foolish and missed the opportunity to take lessons from some incredible players...Bob Mayo, Dave Van Ronk, Joe Mass...
Some of the best guitar players I know...world class cats...take lessons.
Next one I come across... I'm gonna get some lessons... I'm not far from Arlen Roth...

one can always teach an old dog a new trick but at times it could be like leading a horse to water; gnome sane?
