Loved the Yardbirds -- they were one my earliest influences, from the Clapton era through Beck and Page. Does anyone remember the brief bit in the film "Blow Up" where the Yardbirds are playing in some club, and going through a pretty hot version of "Train Kept A'Rollin'"? Man, those were the days.

My band still does a take on the Y'birds live version of "I'm A Man". Still one of my favorites after almost 40 years.

Great clip. Page, his Tele and some hot licks. Excellent version of Train Kept A Rollin'.

I have "Blow Up" on DVD just for that scene. Beck and Page together. And Beck smashing his guitar on his Vox AC-30 because it kept cutting out!

I saw Jiimy and the Yardbirds do a concert at my college in 1969 in the late winter/early spring. They were awesome!

I also posted a link for a live version of Train Kept a Rollin in the Vintage Les Pauls section. Page isn't with them in that clip, but Beck is playing a 'Burst.

Aerosmith

Who is the other band playing with Aerosmith? The other guy's tone pretty well blows awy Joe Perry's on the solos.

The B'z - They are a huge band in Japan. Guitarist is Tak Matsumoto. And he is good.

If that 1969 isn't a typo, that would have been Page's next project....what were they called again? ;)

Awesome stuff. Thanks for posting. There isn't a whole lot of Yardbird footage kicking around.

The video seems to be ->squeezed<- somewhat though.

The director wanted the Who originally for the film. It was scripted for the band to smash their gear, and the set was designed to be like the Ricky-Tik Club. You also get a glimpse of Beck grabbing his burst after smashing the sacrificial hollowbody.

Any idea how to "Save" this file, or where to get a non-Flash version I could save?

it was stroll on.i think the guy who wrote train kept a rollin wouldn't let them use it so they just rewrote the words to the same music.
They had to get Beck that cheap hollowbody because he refused to smash one of his own.

I don't think it was a case of the writer not allowing it. What writer or pubisher in his right mind would refuse royalties from a film. It probably had more to do with the films producer(s) not wanting to budget the money for the rights to TKAR. Cheaper to scribble down some new words & change the title to Stroll On. Actually, I'll bet Page & Peter Grant figured why give up the royalties to someone else.

There's an album called "Cumular Limits" available on Burning Airlines that contains a bunch of loose ends from the Page years. It also includes an enhanced cd with a video performance from 3/16/67 on the German TV show "Beat Beat Beat." They play "Shapes of Things," "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago," "I'm a Man," and "Over Under Sideways Down." It's definitely worth seeking out.

There is a documentary available (I think it's from Rhino) that has segments from these videos as well as interviews with most of the band members and Peter Grant. If my memory serves me well all three of the guitarists are interviewed in that doc, but I haven't seen it in a while.

I have both of those, and I highly recommend them to anyone who's interested. The video portion of the CD is great.

Did anyone see that Aerosmith clip? I now realize that Brad Whitford plays all of my favorite Aerosmith guitar parts and as far as I'm concerned is a better soloer and guitar player than Joe Perry.
