• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Looking at old pictures found my 57-59 conversion

Now, what special edition Les Paul in the late ‘70s…iirc…had a center section with two side pieces in the top made od fancy figured maple ??? this guitar looks like it could have been the prototype…even if the center section is off to one side a bit. Sharp….I really like the dark burst.

The Spotlight?

I think the centre strip was walnut, flanked by figured Maple.

That hurts to think of that fiddle in the past tense. I opened the thread and let out an involuntary "wow". We need the story lad.

I was working at a gas station 1974 this guy would stop for gas he drove a yellow 914 he always had this parrot in a cage with him . So he was a real talker telling me the parrot did not like being left at home with the dogs all day . The neighbor said the parrot would yell bad dog all day . So one day he pulls in with a guitar case & it was a sunburst JR 55 or so . I told him I was looking for a sun burst with big pickups a old one . He said a friend had just finished painting a gold one sun burst with grover tuners no pick up covers & flame . The guitar was beautiful I paid $1500.00 and $ 250.00 for a 57 Fender Deluxe . Off I go the happiest kid in town 3 months later I go over to a friends to play slip on the ice on his sidewalk brown hardshell go's smack down on concrete snapped the neck off . The guy that refinished the guitar repaired the break .

Now the real painful part I was living in Idaho I drove into Twin Falls & traded the guitar for a Pancake cherry Les Paul Deluxe mini humbuckings O how I now hate the sight of those 1977 cherry shit sticks !

Wow, Incredible ! I sure miss the old days . Like in high school I was offered a first year reissue 68 Goldtop with P90's for $250 . Sure I wanted it and then some guy comes knocking on my family door and says it his guitar and he wants it back . Well I never purchased it as I didn't have the $ as I was just a kid in school . Turns out the guitar was stolen and I never did find out the outcome of it . It was a stroke of good luck as who want's someone else's stolen guitar and I got my Les Paul Custom shortly after that on payments of course ($50 a payment until I paid the full price ) and I still have my Custom and still play it . That Darkburst ? Les Paul is righteous !!!!!!!!!!! I bet she sounded righteous as well . I am fully in awe I must say !
