• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Looks like there's a new model/body shape in town, the Theodore

Might have been a bit cooler with a trem, for a Strat vibe (with the Alder body). Short scale, set-neck Strat.

Or maybe made of Korina instead of Alder.

As-is, especially inaccurate to the original drawing details, looks like a dud.

I'd get one in a second if they were made left handed and with a price tag of 1500.00 or cheaper. I'm a Ric player, and maybe that's why I like the vibe. I also like symmetrical or nearly-symmetrical cutaways

I think doing this especially as part of the Historic line is a cool idea, however the appeal would have been that it's created from Ted's drawing, so I'm not understanding why they altered it. I'm talking about the pickguard shape and 3-way switch placement. For some reason they felt a need to "fix" it, but in doing so they made the whole endeavor pointless. It would be much cooler if it matched the drawing. That would have given it more historical significance. But as it stands, it's a swing and a miss

The headstock is also different, but could be he was trying to draw the explorer headstock, so I'll give the headstock a pass.

I also want to like it… and I love the concept of the archive collection too… but I cannot bond with the tulip horns… not yet at least, maybe I just need to get used to it.
When I look at it it reminds me of a Pokemon lol I wish they had made it look a bit more agressive…
I am looking forward to seeing what is next in that collection though!

Not my cup of tea. Name wise, I thought Framus had everyone beat with "The Plank", and then Gibson came out with the "Theodore". I know why they used the name, and I hold nothing against anyone with that name, but for a guitar? Reminds me of "The Homer" car from the Simpsons..

I also noticed that Gibson went out of their way to get that guitar into the hands of all the Youtube guitar "influencers" as quickly as possible, and gave them all directions on what message to have in their videos and when they could post the videos: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=gibson+theodore

They are so desperate to make this "a thing", it is rather embarrassing..

Dang. I understand it's hard to come up with an original guitar design but just type 'tulip guitar' into Google and look out. I thought these guys were supposed to keep it to basics. Can a 'Retro' Firebird X be far behind?

Remember this tulip shape was in 1957 the teisco guitars were from the sixties. In another thread here a Gibson employee talks about other drawings they had for acoustics even earlier (talk about crazy) I think it’s cool and I like the way they aged it.

The more I'm seeing it popping up in youtube vids and in forum discussions the more I like it. All the hate it's getting increases it's appeal for me too for some reason LOL

318 total, I don't think they are worried about marketing too much. They will sell out.

This release is actually marketing, regarding the launch of the Archive Collection itself... to raise awareness. Doubtless you will see more desirable Archive models from the Custom Shop.

And they will use these to gauge demand whether to offer via USA, Epiphone, or M2M, etc.

Cheers to them!

I dig it. If I could have gotten a blond one, I'd have taken it. My local shop had 1 of each color. All 3 sold in the first day, and the blond sold within an hour. Before they even shipped the guitar, the buyer put the guitar up for sale at twice the price on Reverb.

Got to fiddle with a red one a bit before they shipped it out.

Well, it's good to hear that Gibson had a success with this (even if I personally do not like the design).

In regard to the buyer flipping the guitar on Reverb for twice the price, ok, so he/she is profiting from the popularity. I just hope Gibson does not style itself into a situation like Rolex has been having these past few years (can't be had for love or money).
