• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hey guys i was thinking baout buying an Antiquity neck and a sethlover bridge in my les paul. I've read that the lower the rating, the brighter the pickup will be, so i was thinking getting a real low rating for the antiquity and a high one for the sethlover. i want my neck to be clear and still bassy and my bridge not to be ice picky like my BBV's are not doing right now. any help is appreciated. I was also thinking about getting a WRC Darkburst neck pickup as I've heard these are very clear and still bassy, anyone have any commends on that? Would these pickups/combinitions do well under overdrive/distortion? sorry for the barrage of questions haha
your comments?...

Yes, lower k reading means brighter/clearer.

I'd go the other way round: Seth neck. Antiquity bridge.

I haven't committed myself to a pickup yet. My guitar has a very bright thin harsh bridge BB pro pickup. If you lower it, the volume goes down the sound gets cleaner but thinner (not good because you can't cut through the mix), if you raise it the sound is louder with more balls but harsher and icepicky (still too thin to cut through). I was going to go with antiquities, but I'm begining to think that I need a hotter pickup in the bridge. Something in the range of 9-10k, maybe a Duncan JB. Based on my conversation with Duncan people I'm actually looking for a sound with more prescence and stronger mids. So maybe the vintage stuff is not really want I want. I want to be able to cut through the band's mix with a punchy pup and at the same time have a tame treble. Something where the people listening are pushing their fingers up their ears.

well im looking for pickups that are very dynamic to the touch, and i was wondering if the lower the rating the more dynamic; anyone have any feedback on how these pickups sound dirty ie thru a rat, etc.?

I just put a set of Antiquities and a RS kit in a Hamer 335 clone and I am really happy with both. Bridge is bright but not to harsh and the neck has nice bass and warm tone all around.

I also just received a set of WCR darkbursts that, along with a premium production wiring kit from RS guitar works, are going into my '81 LPC tonight.

You could try lowering your pickups and raising your polepieces. That might work.

Agree. Adjustments do a lot for pickups. Mess around with what you have first before going for something different. In general I prefer my neck pickup to be lower output to my bridge. Around 7.5-8k for the neck seems to do the trick for my tones on the neck. 8.5-9k for the bridge.
