• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Went by my local GC last night, it was the semi-final for contestants to enter Guitarmaggedon "King of Blues". 10 guys played and they were all very good. Most had Fender Strats, but one guy had a white LP Studio, appeared all stock. Another had a gorgeous plaintop Honeyburst Standard or Classic. Both sounded awesome thru Fender Twins. I plan on going next week for the finals :)

I was at our local one last week. Like you saw, mostly Fenders. A couple of the import pointy guitars. One Les Paul. One young kid - 18-20 or so - played an ES 336. Holy crap was he good, chops, licks, modes, passing notes, speed but didn't overplay. His own style, not the SRV, Hendrix, BB clones so many others seemed to be. And he knew how to work that guitar, switching back and forth between pickups, adjusting volume and tone pots on the fly.
I thought it was intersting that this kid had his own style and played a guitar that wasn't a me too-type guitar.
I'll be watching for his first national release in a few years.

This thread sounds like Les Pauls are a dying breed. "Hey, they still use Les Pauls". Almost like Apple users at a computer fair "Look, a Mac".
