• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

That's what the M.O.Valve company quotes for life expectancy on KT66's and they go onto say that 10,000 hours is not uncommon. I think that big Marshall book that Mike Doyle put out nearly 30 years ago has the sheet from M.O.Valve(GEC).
I wonder what the reissue ones that Electro Harmonix has made is..
i think there is hour ratings in the old RCA handbook. the old tubes run thousands and thousands of hours. groove tubes told folks to install fresh tubes every 6 months. of course they sold a gajillion tubes but... i just brought an early nineteis rivera amp home 2 nights ago and.. walla! groove tubes

Yeah, I don't know why Aspen told folks to replace them every six months.. I have plenty of tubes in my amps that are 50/60 years old. Aspen was a good friend of mine! I wish he was still with us..

Met Aspen at Namm '83 and bought some Groove Tubes into NZ after that. He was larger than life, a real character God bless him.

The Astoria is really hard to find second hand - I’ve been looking for a classic or custom combo but no luck..

He was a Character! I've known him since 1973. We use to work at Acoustic Control Corp.(Acoustic amps). He was in Sales and I was Q.C.. He had a horrific car accident in August of 2019 about a mile up the street from where I lived. He was towing a trailer and it started fish-tailing and made his van loose control. He went head-on into a concrete power pole. Took them 30 minutes to get him out and then another 10 to get him to the hospital. He passed the next morning... One of the kindest guys you'd ever meet!!
Most tubes/valves that use numbers instead of 2 numbers, two letters were, when they came out with them, meant for industrial use..

me too! id like to snag a custom head. i watched reviews and the lead channel had a tone that reached out from the computer and grabbed me which is a first. real thick and crunchy good. im sure a few will be rotated through the popular sales sights as time marches on. just have to keep an eye out. there was a combo last time i looked on greedverb (i like reverb, just playin around)

man i,m sorry he went out that way. i had heard groove tubes had been sold and his amp collection was being sold off. i actually wound up with one an early fender concert with bluebells in it. the guy told me it was from aspens collection.
i probably would have loved hanging with aspen cuzz i also love old amps to no end.
his buddy also seemed interesting 'red rhodes' aspen mentioned that red knew a lot of old tech tricks etc and had been around forever. i run heavy equipment and i,m old enough to have seen a lot of old guys pass that take so much knowledge with them. the new stuff you diagnose remotely with a laptop!
ACOUSTIC CONTROL CORP! you would love my acoustic PA speaker collection! (yes i,m excentric) loved the white vynil! have some big subs that look awesome!
i love acoustic stuff. i read that jaco pastorius slept on park benches and saved every dime till he could buy his 360 acoustic!

I almost pulled the trigger on one that I saw on reverb as well, however it was 220V. It looked like the CME version too!

Aspen sold GT to Fender around 2006. He sold the amp collection to Guitar Center in 1997. He still had some great amp at his studio. His daughter Autumn has taken over the studio and is going to do great with it..
