For now yes, I’m going to the store to check it our tomorrow. That's it for pics?
It looks like a straight bottom cab. (B) It looks like large checkerboard cloth, but way too new looking. Replaced?
I’ll find out to tomorrow as they didn’t have any more information. Speakers aren’t original though from what I understand.Does it have metal or plastic handles? Serial number plate on the back? That might help identify the year.
It's got the corner protectors, so wouldn't that likely have plastic handles too?Does it have metal or plastic handles? Serial number plate on the back? That might help identify the year.
OK thanks!Yeah, as I said before, the cloth looks too new for the age and condition of the cab. That's not a bad thing; just an observation...
It also looks like it's missing the white piping around the front of the baffle. It's obviously missing the 11" (?) plastic Marshall logo.
For sure! ThanksIt looks a lot like my old 90's 1960BX, those came with Celestion greenbacks and checkerboard grillcloth. Obviously we need more pictures to be sure
Thanks!Still has gold piping, plastic corners and plastic caster cups. Early 79s. Replaced checkerboard.
Check for ply back.
Thank you so much!74-ish would be my guess. Non original grill and the white piping has been removed.
Can't be sure but it looks like the castor cups are screwed on, and the corners rivetted. So assuming those are original features, it is likely from that transition period in the mid 70's, just before they rivetted the castor cups on. The corners were screwed on until about 73 or 74.
Need more photos to date it accurately, ideally of the inside. All the materials can be changed on the outside of the cab, so the woodwork on the inside is the best indicator of how old it is. Although the tolex does look original to me on that one. Of course if it's got the original speakers in there you can just check the date codes on them.
For a while circa 1974 they were using actual black tolex, and it does look like that stuff to me. Also look for slot head screws instead of pozidriv. That usually indicates circa 74 too, and maybe a small black serial badge.
You can find earlier cabs (pinstripe / basketweave) that were retolexed with those cosmetics in the 70's. The woodwork on the inside will tell you.
I haven’t had the time to go look! The guy with the store doesn’t have a smart phone or computer and its about an hour drive from me…. Will keep you posted!
Unfortunately the speakers are not original.. thanksGrill cloth has been redone.
Pulling the back & getting cone & basket codes is the only way to date the cab providing the speakers are all original.
