Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
DOES ANYBODDY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE JTM -60 AMPS.I SEEN ONE FOR SALE TODAY FOR $450 USED. IS IT WORTH THE TIME TO CHECK IT OUT,STORE WAS CLOESED ON SUNDAY.SIGN SAID IT WAS TUBE ,12" SPEAKER THANKS
They sound great - when they work. I've got 2, both currently out of action. They typically have heat problem or blowing the standby fuse (for various reasons). Both of mine are blowing standby fuses. I got one to work again for awhile after a new OP tranny. The other one worked after cleaning the fx loops. No time, or patience to resume t-shooting anytime soon.
I've got one that works first time, every time. The distortion is a bit fizzy for my tastes but the clean sound is pretty much like a JTM-45. The trick is to not crank the gain too far. You can use a pedal for thot instead.
I had one and gigged/rehearsed/recorded it fairly hard for 6 years without any problems. I think I may have got lucky though as I've heard lots of reports of them overheating, but I also remember reading of a few simple fixes. I always got good comments on my tone with that amp, but I never thought it sounded like a 60 Watt amp; much more like a 30 Watt. I quite liked the overdrive channel, but as I recall turning the gain up much past 4 was a waste of time.
I was warned away from one here and other forums. Even the shop owner was reluctant to sell it to anyone not a tech. It was $300.00, with issues I found trying it out. The concensus among a few gurus online was that these have insufficient ventilation, and should have had a fan installed at the factory. If you can't gut it and fix it yourself, walk away.

I've heard this too. Also during a recent visit to the Marshall factory one of the repair techs was asked by a customer if he could fit a fan to a JTM and was told they couldn't because they can only repair and service amps to spec.
Had one a couple of years ago. Mounted a computer-fan under the power-tubes. Worked as long as I got it. Still works for the guy owning it now. Remember I liked the clean channel a lot!
I have a little computer fan just mounted to the tray under the tubes, run off a wall wart. Never had overheating problems.
I've also done the diode bypass (found on the Metroamps forum), it was posted by one of the members here I believe.
If you're buying used, make sure it's never been cooked. Upside, I think they are great sounding amps, and extremely versatile. As Keefoman said above, the clean channel is great. The OD channel is great after the mod.
Is it the 2x12 or the 4x10 model? My buddy had the 4x10 and it sounded good. Haven't seen this guy in a long while, so I couldn't tell you if it ever had issues.
Another buddy of mine has the 2x10 JTM30, I've played though it several times and it always dounded good. He's never had issues with overheating.
