• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I got an call from someone selling a "1959 les paul". They want a mear $400+ for it. I tried to explain to them i thought it was a "max". but they has some story how they got it from the original owner, and it was just appraised (don't know by who), blah blah blah. Serial number way too high at 9 5xxx. also you can just tell, at least to me, that it's not the real deal. Maybe i'm wrong? but hey, it's got a bunch of cool parts, and it sure is puridy! Just putting out a "head up".

Even if real, I think they'd probably have it for awhile at that price.

A few months ago, I played the '60 Burst at Emerald City guitars in Seattle - still listed on their website. I think it's a consignment. Although a definite 'player', it's got one of the nicest tops I've seen, and I know they were seeking a much more modest amount.

Question:

Do all Cali-girl cases fit as poorly as the one in the photo?

You got a random call about one? I wish I knew enough about them to give you some good advice, but it's always neat to see these kinds of threads.

There have been a few max bodies on sale on the bay I wonder if it could be one of them.

The 95xxx serial is a max serial isn't it??

Looks like someone found out that holding the plastic over a burning cigarette will turn it yellow.

So the "English" rings turn yellow/orange like that? What happened? Sticks out like a sore thumb, IMHO.

If you expose the English rings (most but not all?) to lots of sunlight, they get a 'luvly' caramel suntan.

So, how do we know merely buy these poor pictures, those are English Repro rings, and how do we know if it is a REAL burst or a MAX?

So let me get this right....If a guitar is POSING as a burst it may stay under the vintage Les Paul thread.

If it is proven to be something else it is moved to the backstage area?

Just want to make sure I understand this correctly.

If it turns out to actually be a burst, will it be moved back?

I'm pretty sure the Mods move things when they see it doesn't belong.
I don't think they are reading every thread on the Forum for that purpose. Things can get moved quicker [perhaps] if they are reported.
And of course, for the really bad stuff :wah there's the "report post" button. :)
