• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I love Dave's heritage cherry color. Mark has a Killer there, gone in 60 seconds. One of three project guitars of mine is at Dave's right now awaiting that color.

Where DJ differs than in others is the middle color. That part seems to be harder to nail in my opinion.

True Steve, and the fact that Mark does a great job with his pics. Showing true colors on the internet can get infuriating.

Speaking of differences... How does this makeover compare to Kim's/HM's? Did the changes for 2013 make it redundant to change other parts such as binding, bridge, tuners, neck reset, studs, etc. as well? Considering the works that already went into this whole makeover, it looks just a bit more to do it all.

Gorgeous guitar though! Top notch!
Top notch price too... Waiting for a tone report.

Mark also does a great job aging a matching parts. Several guys do that as well. I do think Gibson is getting better at shooting finishes and their colors lately. The Do-Overs have thinner nitro, and to me makes a better feeling guitar and for the most part better resonating. My comment was not to knock or put down any refined guitar, but for me the refin and color gradation outside-in can differ immensely and be off in the center. We all comment and bitch about pickup rings but the Center of a Burst pattern is more important to me and how realistic it looks.

I love that color. That is the deep red 59 color. But a pet peeve of mine is the way so many get the shape of the Burst wrong. Like this one.

I spent some time with the finishers in Kalamazoo in the 70's and had the very guys that sprayed 50's sunbursts show me. So many like this a wrongly applied in the upper bout. The burst should look like a pear, and not follow the upper bout curve, the whole area is one dark shade. It is worse on some USA Gibsons where it completely follows the perimiter like a Fender or Epiphone.

If the goal is correct 50's Gibson sunbursts I'd be dissapointed with this. It is not correct and it is obvious.

That wasn't the goal. According to Mark's description on his site, the goal was "to try and match that great deep Cherry Sunburst that was used on the 2009 50th Annv. gold certificate guitars."

Guys, this guitar showed up at my home Thursday night. I can't begin to describe how great it sounds and plays. Mark's tone description is right on. I'm not going to post any pics as I can't come close to those that Mark took. This is the second guitar I've got that Dave replaced the board and frets. I noticed that on both of these there is something about the way he does it that just makes them feel wonderful and play effortlessly. Got my caliper out and noticed that the frets are a bit higher than the Gibson frets; same width but .050" tall. I like it. Dave even matched the neck binding color to the new body binding color used this year. Anyway, I'm really enjoying it. No complaints; even the pickups are great. Thanks again Mark!

Agreed! There's a fuckin' "hole", to the left of the neck pickup.

To Guitar Whiskey, Beautiful guitar! Enjoy. Other than that, did I really read that the owner should be dissappointed with this guitar because the spray job isn't pear shaped? Wow....... I can say this right now. I would not in any way, shape, or form be dissappointed to own this guitar.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. No disappointment on my part at all. I had such a great weekend with this one. It fulfills a quest that I've been on for quite some time; in spades. The team that got this to me has wisdom and experience that I admire and trust; enough said.
