This was Michael Allsup’s primary electric guitar for much of the 3 Dog Night recording sessions. It’s a beautiful looking Les Paul.
It was shown on the front cover of their 1970 album Naturally.
You can also see a few Morley guitar foot pedals, a few Marshall amps, and a red Gibson SG Electric guitar in the foreground. Those were the guitars he used on Joy To The World, Black and White, Liar, Sunlight etc. He also used a Fender Stratocaster, a Fender Telecaster, a Gibson ES 335 and a Gibson Chet Atkins nylon string guitar. 3 Dog Night is one band that most everybody I know likes. Joy To The World is a song that I think is still relevant today (and I recently purchased the Big Chill soundtrack at a thrift store recently. Great soundtrack, great movie.) As for my copy of Naturally, I bought it earlier this year at an auction held at my church. And that beautiful picture of Joe Schermie playing his natural Sixties Fender Jazz Bass (with the troll doll on the headstock...May he rest in piece!) he was a great bass player.
As for the Gibson Les Paul Michael Allsup played, he no longer owns it. It got auctioned off in 2010. Would love to know who owns it now.
Do you think Michael Allsup is a good guitarist? Do you like the pictures of his guitars? Are you a 3 Dog Night fan? Please let me know.
