• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Listening to 'me and my woman' from Mayall's Crusade album and Mick's tone and phrasing are manificent.
I understand his Burst from that era was stolen. Did it ever re-surface?

Hmmmmm, thanks for explaining the keef burst story. So what's the guitar in the story in the link I posted. Or is that bogus?

Just a great track alright. A lot of Mick's tone is to do with the JTM50 he used,a very different sound to the previous EC and PG amps.....kind of figures though doesn't it.

Yall are the Taylor experts. There is a pic on the inside of Mayalls Looking Back album showing him with a different Burst from the Keef and he looks real young.Yet, isnt there a pic of him with The Gods around here somewhere where hes playing a Bigsby Burst?

I guess you're right. I've never played a jtm50 but would love to try one.

Here are the pics I mentioned above:
The Gods pic shows a Lester with Bigsby and poker chip,
The Mayall pic I can't tell what tailpiece it has but appears to lacking poker chip. That has to be waaay early in his tenure as McVie is still on bass.

Yes he was 17.
Makes me laugh these days when they rave about a 'young' guitarist and it turns out they are in the 20s.

I can see how back then even though they were in high demand, it was still a ten year old guitar. im sure they didnt guard them as the holy relics they are now.

Any Gibsons outside of the USA were like GOLD to a muso back then as they were unobtainable........... and high priced if one did appear.

They were already holy relics by the late 60's, especially outside the States. I still remember the first time I saw a real sunburst, in the hands of Spencer Davis, at the Big Apple club in Munich, 1967. I think that was the first time I'd seen a Les Paul being played by anybody and I recall it looked strange, a small guitar compared to most others at the time.
