  • WE HAVE MOVED THE LES PAUL FORUM TO A NEW HOSTING PROVIDER! Let us know how it is going! Many thanks, Mike Slubowski, Admin
  • Please support our Les Paul Forum Sponsors with your business - Gary's Classic Guitars, Wildwood Guitars, Chicago Music Exchange, Reverb.com, Throbak.com and True Vintage Guitar. From personal experience doing business with all of them, they are first class organizations. Thank you!

I'm in the UK and I'm not exactly dripping with excitement. They'll probably sell the tickets (though they'll need to, they've committed to more nights in some huge venues here than Taylor Swift did) but I won't be in the queue for the things.

Working-class lads from a rough council estate in Burnage who took on the world. It’s an extraordinary story.

To me, the greatest thing about them was that they really didn’t give a shit. They were funny and rude, and they took the piss.

Toffs hated them because they were above their station, had a footie-fan audience, and were unapologetically yobbish.

How wonderful.

Also: they did more than anyone to re-popularise the great British V-sign.

What’s not to love?

Well, for me, the music. I didn't enjoy it then, don't now. Working class lads from somewhere rough? Yes, but they're hardly unique in that, and nowhere near the best of them. Unapologetic in their "yobbishness"? Again, hardly unique and hardly the first even as a sales gimmick for a band. The great British V-sign? Unless you live somewhere awfully posh this has been well in vogue since Agincourt.

But apparently their revival is going to bring in some £400m, so they won't need to give a shit and can carry on taking the piss and all that :)

We need a repeat of 'The Tour of Brotherly Love' during the Stateside swing!

Brit pop done wonders for the UK.. it gave us something to be proud of.. it united us musically and socially.. it put us back on the industry map after the Seattle/sup pop dominance prior.. and hopefully with the reformation of oasis.. it’ll do so again.. coz god knows we need it right now..
