Would it be safe to say, the most famous "missing" vintage burst is Clapton's "Beano" 1960
Les Paul? any others?

Although not famous, I recently managed to track down my old guitar teacher and asked him what became of his burst, he told me he gave it to his son a few years ago who then took it to Europe where it was stolen :( ...I got the impression he had no idea of it's value.

Jeff Beck's is missing to him (because it was stolen), but it's in BOTB so somebody knows where it is.

Concerning the Clapton Beano guitar: From the old pictures I think the guitar would be very hard to identify today. It was already pretty much faded in 1966, so I guess it will be a total lemon drop by now. There are no sharp pictures showing flame or grain. The serial# is unknown, too.

One Guitar magazine ran an article in 2004 concerning the missing Eric Clapton's Bluesbreakers Les Paul, saying " Though a few contenders have emerged over the years......none have been confirmed. Find it, and you'll be famous throughout the guitar world...... and very possibly rather rich........" :wow

Maybe (just maybe) the person who has it, doesn't even know it's the Beano Burst (see my post above).

I was trying to find another article that said there has been speculation that the Beano Burst is in a private collection in London UK..... If that is the case and the 'owner/keeper' does know it is.....to think/know you have 'that' guitar and yet NEVER be able to share that joy with others, or indeed..... be/feel confident/genuine enough to offer it back to its rightful owner.....

There's also Ronnie Montrose's stolen burst which has been discussed here I believe...

IF the stories are true [I am still waiting many years for confirmation], it was discovered before the LPF existed. :wink2

We've heard a lot about the Bloomfield 'Burst and its probable location, but we haven't seen any recent pix.

Not a 'Burst, but Page's Black Beauty has yet to surface.

IMO, I could never play my best on a guitar of suspicious origin. It seems like the fact that it was ill-gotten would always be in the back of my mind.

I think I read here before that the Beno burst is in the hands of the thief who knows what it is and is too scared to pull it out.

WARNING: THIS IS WHAT "I" REMEMBER AND i CAN'T FIND THE THREAD!!!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but no flames please

I want to know who the dirty turd is who stole McCartney's first Hofner!

What exactly do you do with an identifiable guitar. Like sidekick said- you've got a famous guitar that your hero owns- and you can't play it out or brag about it. Lotta good it does you.

You sit in front of your computer typing entries into the LPF while playing your cherished piece of history in your lap, all the while sporting a big dumb grin.

To some, that's good.

I suppose a 'bedroom' player.....with little conscience, could 'live with it'.....Probably like an art collector, who knows he has a stolen Van Gogh, (or whatever).....But sits in a dark private room......Looking, appreciating and musing........

If I ever had a real burst :) (Yeah... right) and it was stolen, the statute of limitations is the day I'm dead. Other than that, I would want my guitar back. God help the thief if I ever caught them...
