• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Monty's: any experience with this pickup maker ?

I bought a set for my 58 reissue last year. I much prefer them to the potted Custombuckers they replaced. The Monty's are bright and clear without being shrill, love 'em and sound like all my favourite blues rock references.

Love mine too, I’ve not tried the custombuckers but have always wanted too.

I'm sure not all Custombuckers are the same but the neck pickup in my guitar was a bit wooly and the bridge a bit sharp and lacking in nice mids.

Just installed in my True Historic and love them. Never heard original PAFs but have read that a comparison to the real thing is as accurate as any PAF out there. Understand they’re low output like PAFs. Bridge was a little lower in volume so I had to raise it slightly. That’s about it. Love them.
How come you changed the pickups in your true historics ?

No reason other than in sound samples the Monty’s sounded more similar to original PAFs. But I just got a Murphy Lab heavy relic LP and wouldn’t change the stock pickups for anything. They sound extremely close to my 63 SG PAFs

Monty's has just announced an even lower output PAF set, called Underspun. For those that like their PAFs bright and low output you might want to check them out. I'm literally trying to figure out what guitar I can put them in.

Do you know per chance, are his “regular” PAF winds in the 7k range?
