• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Gibson has let say exaggerated clames for many years.
With there planned obsolescence approach to historics. The name change back with the TH back to VOS.
When will this marketing crap end?

So Matt Koehler says collectors choice guitars were not “exciting” anymore, and were just copies of rich people’s unpopular les,Paul’s. Contrary to their marketing chant during the run. My question is why should anyone believe them this time around, and what non rich person owns a 59 les Paul?
this lacquer story tale is laughable, and Gibson now openly dissing many that supported the last reinvention of the les Paul. The only guitar in history that the original manufacturer can’t seem to ever get right until next years newest, best, more truest, version. Now with reverse engineered lacquer that will make your guitar more authentic.

Bullshit.

Good to hear the guitars used are no different than the lowly Historics. Feeling better about my R7.

If the lacquer formula is different, does that mean different this year for all Rs, or the different lacquer is only for aged guitars?

Gibson’s senior director of product development, Mat Koehler, explains how this came about. “The Collector’s Choice line was dropped in 2017 because it wasn’t exciting any more,” says Koehler. “Without wishing to disparage any of our collaborators, we were just copying rich people’s un-special Bursts. I didn’t like how one-note it was getting, and I wanted to make it more diverse and not be tied up in contracts. We started out by asking what we could do to provide an authentic vintage ownership experience.”

For me, nothing about Gibson has been exciting for some time.

Gibson were trying to copy 'Bursts in the hands of the strongest collective and advocates of these instruments on the planet. I stress the word trying. The failure to even get the paint right on some of them all got a little one note for us too. Diverse? try getting the buggers right first, before going an such a vainglorious odyssey of nonsense.

That avoidance of disparagement will do until a real insult turns up. I wonder how many of the owners of the original copied 'Bursts didn't get paid? I seem to recall in the Chapter 22 proceedings there was a "letter"....

The only way to enjoy an authentic vintage ownership experience, is to buy an authentic vintage guitar. End of errand. Who on earth do you think you're talking to with this drivel?

You are giving smoke and mirrors pause for embarrassment.

I haven't bought a single item from Gibson, not even a string, since Ed Wilson's dismissal.

I remain a man of my word.

This shit just never ends does it! You do not have to buy these guitars if you do not like them. Pretty simple!

I suppose someone needs to do some searching around to come up with old growth wood for the missing piece to next years one up from this years stuff. I can see the headline now, "Original Wood Found". ;)

The whining never ends. How good is my Murphy lab 64’ ES 335? I did something I thought I’d never do. I sold the rest. Go play one, judge for yourself.

Few thoughts to parse this:

- I don't care what Gibson does, or any other replica maker for that matter...they are not original bursts and will never be the same. You can make a perfect fake of an old painting...but it's still a fake. Period.
- They can still make a great guitar and I've owned MANY historics over the past 20+ years.
- All companies take liberties in their marketing...be it hand cream, tuna fish, or the local deli. I don't pay attention to all the hyperbole I see in a TV commercial, and I'm certainly not gonna get wrapped around the axle when Gibson does it. And if you do, I can guarantee you'll never be happy, because there will always be some screw/plastic piece/neck shape that you think is not correct. Do you like the guitar? Buy it. If not, don't. I, myself, buy them. And I know exactly what I'm getting.

- Signed
"Rich person with un-special Les Paul"
