• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

A Heavy Aged Firebird - might as well buy vintage for that price. - Discuss....
I get the draw on some of these aged guitars but have a hard time paying the extra money. They look cool but aging should fit to your own wear and tear.

It's a price point and a choice for the consumer and moves the ball that much closer to the Vintage Golden era goal line . Choices are good , and that also fits different budgets and price points . All of this is a win win for the consumer . Think of it another way in that someone covets a vintage burst , but they don't have $300,000 for a burst . So then if it's a in house aged Gibson Custom , or a Murphy aged , or a Murphy Lab means significant choices for the consumer at multiple price points .

Yes, i get that more so on the Les Pauls. I have a lemon drop that would look evev better with some aging I think. And whatever people want to spend their money on. Im saying on the Firebird, for a few thousand more oif you lookm you can get a vintage for that price.

Lovely guitars coming from the Murphy lab. Do they look like real vintage, sadly no. Must be real hard to nail the vintage look.

Its hard to nail the vintage aging with the new lacquer... It's just not the same. They have alot of epa regulations to follow. the private guys such as Nacho banos nails it on his relics. it unbelievable how good it looks.

Is the Murphy Lab Gibson's strategy to compete with Historic Makeovers and other Aging companies?

I would go for the vintage instrument in a heartbeat if the price was that close .

I wish the hype wasn't real, but as far as Tom Murphy guitars go, I have never played a better Les Paul than my Murphy Aged Clapton. The lacquer feels harder and smoother, and as someone who sweats when they play, my hands tend to glide and move a lot more freely on the neck. It also weighs just 8lbs even and has explosive pickups. The whole thing is an 11/10 and I would say it is better than or equal to any Les Paul I've ever played.

Early on, I had to find out for myself if the "Murphy Aged Magic" was all that they say it is - and in my opinion the answer is YES.

I am very stoked about the Murphy Lab guitars and would love to see a Tom Murphy-fied Gibson Explorer!

It's a dog eat dog world out there. I can vividly recall when Martin hurriedly tried to catch up with the Authentic line when Pre-War started doing the aging take on the 30's plus vintage models. It sure cut itself a piece of the pie.
Gibson CS/Historic just changed the name to Murphy Lab (gave Tom involvement/reign) to give the rest a run.

Im happy Tom has his team acknowledged now. But he has had this for years. So nothing new here.
That being said.
I have seen the cold shock and it looks terrible. Completely wrong.
Why they would now do this. A shame.
KIM is the only one who pulls this off right.

Im happy i have 4 Murphys done by Tom. His original way.

All thru these 27 28 years of Historics we all went thru and help make these changes.
But we all know the marketing department is why it take 27 years to get things right.

Murphy Lab is just a new name change to make you buy a new one.
Remember the TH fiasco? Lol
Now back to VOS...
In house aging now murphy lab

There just Historics in the end nothing different.
But a Historic has become the new modern burst.

How hard can it be!! Use "real" thin nitro and all you have to do is wait a few years... The more pictures/videos I see, the less I understand these new Murphy lab guitars, it looks wrong and terrible. Don't tell me Tom Murphy can't see this himself?? Something is very wrong here🤪
