Hi, I'm so happy to get my 1st R9 last week. I love the top and the tone of it. And I found those bottom red paint a bit spilled out to the binding of the body and neck... I've no complaint about that but I never see this issue in my LP standard or classic. I'm just wondering that is it a quality issue or other 60th custom shop reissue LPs have been made like that? And I also not sure the fretboard is Indian or Bolivian rosewood. The seller said it is Indian one but it feels smoother than normal rosewood. I guess it may be Bolivian rosewood. What do you guys think?IMG-20210420-WA0037.jpgIMG-20210421-WA0027.jpgIMG-20210421-WA0032.jpgIMG-20210421-WA0029.jpgIMG-20210421-WA0031.jpgIMG-20210421-WA0030.jpgIMG-20210421-WA0028.jpg

The binding bleed is normal due to the vintage correct use of red dye pore filler. Something not done on production models. The cherry red dye migrates into the clear overcoats and will get more noticeable before fading away with play and time.

The fingerboard looks like high quality East Indian Rosewood and is quite lovely.

Why did you buy a Replica vintage Les Paul instead of a USA 60's Standard?

Great, thanks for the useful comments! Did you mean my R9 is replica? Oh no, it is a genuine one. May I know why would you think it is replica?

oh, you meant my 59 reissue is a replica. Just GASing to have one... because I already have 2 LP standard plus from 2004 and 2009. I've tried the new original 50s and 60s, those are great! But I not quite prefer the 2pcs mahogany back.

My new R9 has the same binding bleed. It is already starting to go away in certain positions on the neck. My fretboard is also extremely dark, dense and without many wood grain pores at all. Best I've ever seen other than Brazilian. Right now I think the Gibson Custom Shop is building the best guitars ever. It is like the golden age of RI. Congrats on the new LP. As far as buying a custom shop historic RI rather than a USA 60's standard? One would have to go into a dealer store and play a few of them both back-to-back and then make a personal decision. It involves all kinds of factors including some that don't make any sense:)

I bought a brand new 60th Anny R9 about a year ago and mine has the same type red dye bleed as yours does. Mine is a lemon fade, very pale.
While I don't prefer that bleed issue, the guitar, otherwise is wonderful, so I kept it with no regrets.

I think my binding had the red like that on it when it was new also, the sun fades it ... hey, you got a great piece of wood for your fretboard, consider yourself fortunate ... looks really nice

Congratulations on acquiring such a guitar......you have provided some of the best close-ups of the 59 spec jumbo frets (a contentious issue in themselves).... I have seen showcasing your smooth and dark fretboard .....I have a 2019 R8; the binding bleed is very prominent....much more so than yours but fading.... and it matters very little to me; the period correct frets do not resemble the 59 jumbos pictured.... My 2019 R8 is a killer guitar and a hot player.....I sometimes play it.....just to listen to it......and instead of having a focused playing objective...learning a tune, practising a scale sequence.....etc etc.....I just sort of bath in the various tones..clean (fantastic) to aggressive OD (spectacular) and points in between. The cosmetics of a guitar only take me so far...is it a player?....That is the question.....Oh sure, I want it to be a fine aesthetically agreeable specimen of the breed in the rarified air of Custom Shop Guitars...but how it plays, sounds, intonationates and stays in tune are crucial. How fortunate are we to have access to such quality...yours is a ..Thing Of Beauty.

Yep- my '18 R9 has it. I have not really had it go away on any of the several Reissues I own(ed).
Nice pics and nice guitar by the way.

Is that the original nut? Not sure it looks like Nylon. But tough to tell from your pics.

Thanks, it is quite relieved to hear that my fretboard is indian rosewood like yours. Because I found it very smooth surface and very little grain pores and small, I heard those Bolivian one like that... Yes, I agree with you! The 60th will be one of the good era from the custom shop reissue history. :)

My new 2021 '58 had nice new clean binding when I got it. One month later the binding on the neck is ridiculously pink from playing. I hate it, but at least I know it's normal. Rumor is it will go away in time, but I have my doubts.

over time with exposure and playing, it will disappear...at least for the most part. Leaving it in the case all the time will prolong the fading away....

I wont have any red bleed issues.....I went with a dark brown stain.....its actually making the binding sort of a smoke-stained dark yellow

My 2000 R9 Lemonburst had it bad. My neck binding turned red. Not pink, RED!!! You can find my posts from then and I was losing my mind!!! 1999 was the first time they went back to the cherry red pore filler and both my 99 and 00 had the binding bleed bad. I bought the 00 to play and gigged and toured with it non stop. Within a year it was mostly gone. There is only faint traces of pale red in hard to reach spots along body joint. It seems to be activated by friction and also bled on top where my arm rubbed as well as where my body rubbed the back.

It goes away. So did the red on my neck and body at contact points. DO NOT PUT IN SUNLIGHT!!!

My first R9 (2014 ) had it and I can barely find a trace of it on the binding now . So right about your caution about putting your Les Paul in sunlight , because it will fade the top and sides and back . It will look uneven and funky .
