• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

This is not my guitar. but i think the story is important, and should be documented. This 1959 sunburst was bought in Detroit in 1972. It was already refinished and re-necked (with a SG standard style neck, but with LP custom peghead ordaments). The guy gigged with it all through the 70s and 80s until one night. A mad roadie was fired at the gig and took the guitar outside and 'broke it', left it for dead in the snow. The owner carefully bagged the pieces, and had the guitar put back together. what you see in the last picture is the reassembly.

Maybe you know the guitar?
I think it's very sad, but the owner is an ethusiast, a great player, and a very nice guy, and he had the guitar put back together nicely.

SG necks meet the body at a different point.

You mean with a thinner neck, I trust.

Thanks for posting, Clay. Quality job on the original re-neck, given the way the heel split when the roadie used it as a sledge hammer.

...nice restoration too.

I've known a few that were very dedicated to their underrated job and allowed us to concentrate solely on our music........

I think I saw that guitar in 1973/74 in Detroit. Very nice looking top as I recall.

I wonder if my friend from back then - Mr. 585960 - can weigh in on this.....

dont know about the subsequent semi-demise. Never saw it around here after that. Many of us ended up in the snow after a gig in those years.
