• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

BB ..that's a great story ..with all the gear and Dora chat within 20 minutes his meal must have gotten cold though :) btw, If I'm not mistaken TW's Sandy was used there to record on a late 70's-early 80's (?) Face Dancer album ...I remember their guitarist (Jeff Adams) telling me that Paul McCartney had visited their studio one day to say hello to them and that he couldn't have been any friendlier. Sounds like you have a terrific job :dude

Thanks....it's a pretty good gig.....Paul McCartney has actually been here twice in the last year....Last year they were in studio A playing Beatle tunes live with his band for last years Super Bowl halftime show..... I was able to say hello to him right after they cut a ripping version of Drive my car.... He's a real nice bloke...
Eric too for that matter... :)

That is such a cool story - thank you very much for sharing and being honest. I've read it three times already, and get goose bumps thinking about meeting him in person (which will likely never happen). For almost 13 years I've had this life-size vertical poster of Clapton (with longer hair from the 24 nights era) in my music room ripping a lick on his reissue Strat. Very cool!

Again, thanks for sharing. If you talk with him again, let us know!

I've gotten a couple of emails from Elliot in the last two days. He and his family had to evacuate from the fire out here in L.A.. They're fine and their house is fine but the fire came close. He also played with Terry Reid last night at The Joint in West L.A. I've been to Elliot's house and it's in a very beautiful location out in the West Valley that's very rustic up in a canyon. The houses in his area are very nice. He's a great guy and loves to talk about guitars and music!!
I do envy the lunch with Clapton though!!! Great story! Thanks for sharing!!

Blewsbreaker, that's a great story. Thanks for sharing it. The closest I got to Clapton was about fifteen to twenty feet when he came out after a small concert in Blackpool, England in 1976, but my older sister met him face to face on several occasions in 1964 (I think) and got his autograph, when he played with the Yardbirds.

I was intrigued by his comment on what happened to the BB combo. Yes, I do know that he left his amp behind in Greece when playing with the 'Glands', but that was in the summer of '65. He then came home and rejoined Mayall, recording the Beano album in April of '66. So either he had two BB combos and he's forgotten what happened to no.2. . . . or the amp he left in Greece was actually a head and a cab . . . or the combo he used on Beano was borrowed.

Also, when he was referring to using Twins with Cream I think he meant in their original incarnation. If you look at the cover of Live Cream 2 you can see a Twin or two alongside the stacks. I wonder how he used them? In conjunction with the Marshalls? Or what?

No, he was reffering to the twins he's using now with the Cream reunion shows. He called them the "new" low-powered ones. I also saw one with my very own eyes when I checked out his set-up in studio "B" at Capitol.
I read that story too about when he went to Greece etc..... But Eric did say his amp was kind of a "one off" with the straight front and not the "big lipped" one. He knew the difference...so yes, it seems strange that his version of the story doesn't match the "official" one on that website....
The mystery of the lost bluesbreaker continues....

Ah, I see what you mean about his recent use of Twins. (I think he also used a Twin on the Disraeli Gears sessions.)

Thanks again, Blewsbreaker. :salude

Just come across this thread on TGP.
You must have worked for Charlie C. and known Lee Simpson?
We probably met at some point in the eighties. When I was with EMI Music - I was always out at Hollywood and Vine. Did you know Peter Vince and Peter Mew at Abbey Road?

Best, Pete.

Oh dear, you mean Charles Commelli? Yep, he ran the studios when I was here in the eighties....I left in 88' and came back to Capitol in 1998. Lee S. sounds familiar but I can't place the face... I know of the 2 Pete's at Abbey, but I never met them...
I might know you if you'd like to PM your name to me...
Best,
Bob
