• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I had purchased a used Ovation Celebrity and felt that the action was too high and the shape and slipperiness of the back was an issue. First I added Schaller strap locks on the guitar. I then took my nut slotting files and deepened the nut and slotted the bridge saddle. Knowing that I was going to use D'Addario 10s, I drilled 6 holes in a brass cylinder. (Tone enhancer/compensator) I threaded the strings first through the brass cylinder then the bridge. I then added lines of silicone on the back and bottom of the guitar to prevent slipping while on my lap or shifting when I stand while playing. Works beautifully. The Ovation plays as smooth as my Les Paul guitars.
(The Attach Files notification informed me the photo file is too large for the server)

If you do find a way to post images I would really like to see the mod you did with the brass cylinder. I’ve never heard of that mod and I’ve got a round back that could use some help. I had a 12 string Celebrity Deluxe way back in the day. I kind of wish I had held on to it.

Finally figured out how to load these photos. The last photo is of the solid brass cylinder drilled (not perfectly) because I don't have access to a machine shop. The silicone on the back and bottom of the guitar are effective to prevent the guitar from slipping from my lap or sliding out while standing. I realize it doesn't look pretty.

Thanks for posting those pics. I’m guessing the brass bar is to keep the ball ends from damaging the bridge.

Actually the solid brass cylinder is is for compensating for the lack of tone from not having brass or bronze windings that are not present in the electric guitar strings that I am using now. I am able to play this Ovation like an electric guitar that is set up well.
