It is an oversimplification in that Trainwrecks have way more gain than do Voxes. In order of gaininess from least to most is:
Liverpool
Express
Specially voiced Liverpool

This Constellation is definitely from the Trainwreck gene pool, but it really does have a character of its own. The blending feature of the two channels is WAY cool. I'm just beginning to unlock all the tones that are in there. It is the only amp I've ever heard that hangs with a Trainwreck in tonal complexity.
It's so touch sensitive and really responds to the guitars volume knob. It's so cool playing different Lesters through it, because you really can hear how different each one sounds because this amp does not color the guitar's sound, it simply amplifies it and adds gain to it.....:dude

Bill Holter has 2 Trainwrecks, a Liverpool and an Express. His Express "out gains" his Pool. In addition, my Express out gains both of his. So, I wonder if the Express is the most gainy of the Trainwrecks, or it might be on a case-by-case basis.

I know that this is a tender subject and at risk of getting boiled alive: has anyone here compared a Trainwreck or Komet to a good Kendrick "Trainwreck Climax". I use the word good advisedly because many of them appear to have been made with inferior or even used parts. I also understand that there were severe problems in the business relationship and Ken was treated very shabbily by Gerald. I'd just like to hear if there was ever an objective AB? Thanks... Bob

I have.....I felt the Climax was on par with my Bruno Underground 45 (which is an Express copy).

The Climax also has a "cleaner" channel, which left me only wanting to hear a good Blackface Fender, instead.

Hey Charlie, did you ever have the chance to play a Two Rock Ruby? If so, how'd you think it compares to the Express -- the amp the Ruby ws modeled after?

To answer some of the questions...I have never played a Two Rock Ruby, so I have no method of comparison. I have played a Climax(actually owned one) and found it to not even be in the same ball park, although it did have a good clean tone.

The Express is the gainiest amp Trainwreck makes. My "specially voiced" Liverpool is one of two that Ken "juiced" up. Thus, it is gainier than even the Expresses. Brother Ganzler knows...he used to own it.;)

Panic, I still do have the 20 watter. It's a bad little mutha.:dude

What's the power section tubage in the 20 watt? How does it compare to the Constellation?

(Kaylene is an 03. The first new Trainwreck Ken has made in years)

Was this a complete recent build or the completion of an older, unfinished amp? If the former, do you have a sense of Ken's health and whether he may be planning to begin building a few more? Sure would be nice . . .

Hey C.D. is that amp 7.5 lbs? hahaha The Komet is GREAT amp, I haven't played a Constellation yet, hope to in the near future. Greg Germino does a great 25 watt amp for the money.

I know this thread is a little dated, but Charlie is it safe to say your fascination with Naylor's has subsided?

I heard a pair of Naylors this evening in a BF Vibrolux. They have nothing on vintage Jensens.
