• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

HI, I'm new to the forum so thought I'd post pics of my newly acquired '79 Les Paul Custom in white (now creamy yellow :)).
I think it's all original apart from Schaller tuners (added long ago) which I quite like. The knob numbers are still very white but I think I've seen others like this. Serial number and pot codes confirm '79. One pick up is stamped '79 the other '78 which I suppose ok? (using up old parts). It still has the orig skinny frets which I'm not sure about keeping or not as yet.
Has a 50's style chunky neck and sounds great through a Marshall!

Cool guitar, by the wear on the pup covers looks like someone switched the pups around.

I have a 79 Custom with the same exact wear pattern on the pickups all done by me. (original owner)
Also, I doubt the leads are long enough on the bridge pickup to place on the neck.

Thanks for the comments. Yes the bridge pick wires wouldn't be long enough to change with neck pick. Wear pattern just must be the playing style.

I stand corrected. Never seen a wear pattern like that.

Very nice, love the low frets on my 74 but I am not a bender or electric player for that matter. Did I read that Randy Rhoades used the thin frets?

guitartsar,

Nice guitar! Congrats.

It's ok if you don't feel like sharing, but do you think you could email me the amount you paid for yours? (if you don't feel comfortable sharing the amount in this thread). My brother is about to sell one in nearly NOS condition, and we aren't sure where to start.

My address is my username at hotmail.com. THanks!

I had 79 Custom exactly like this one. Sounded nice, but it was interesting, that just before i had 79 winered and that one sounded fairly different.

Not very consistent, these later Norlins.

How sounds yours in comparison with black 78 you mentioned?

Similar sounding.....not too hot with that kinda hollow sound I like. Different to my '72 SG with tar back pick ups which are hotter.
