• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hello all. I've not posted on the LPF for a long time. Long story short; after 36 years of playing, I just stopped. Don't know why. That was in '17
Earlier this year I picked up my LP and played it acoustically for a few minutes. After a few more times noodling I knew I wanted to get back to playing again.

I had not bought any gear since around '12. I was down to a LP, Tele and acoustic. I needed P90s back in my life. So, I started looking around.
In April I bought a used '20 SG Junior. Fantastic guitar! Lightest electric I've ever owned at 5.8 pounds. Has a neck like the several R0 Historics I once owned. I had to put a Wolfetone Meaner P90 in it.
Played that awesome Junior every day and having a blast. I loved it so much that I needed an SG Standard too.
Well, one month ago today I got my '21 SG Standard '61. Another killer and light SG! 6.7 Lbs. Not changing the pickups in this one.

These past 7 months I've become an SG man. Both SGs get played every day.

Hey man! Good to see you back. And its great to hear that you're playing again.

Funny, looks like we have the same taste in guitars. I have a total of four: A Tele, a Les Paul R8, a Harmony Sovereign acoustic; and I bought a 1963 Les Paul Junior (SG) A few years ago. I guess I'll have to get a SG standard now! :)

Oh, and my name is Sean too!

A nice pair! (I think that was the title of a Pink Floyd album). I'm pretty smitten with my new '61 SG RI. So much so I blew up one of my amps.

How did you manage to toast your amp? What pickups are in your SG?
I'm keeping the stock Burstbucker '61s with A5 mags. Mine read 7.95K bridge and 7.65K for the neck.

Playing loud, stomped on my wha wha and everything went dark and muddy. I think it is the tubes because they haven't been changed in years.

Welcome back Sean. I have been in the guitar doldrums myself.
Thinking about taking lessons...

Welcome back. My #1 is my SG. 1980 Firebrand. I've had it 30 years at this point, and it was through the wringer when I got it. I've put more than a few miles on it since.

I love SG porn.

I only have a live pic of my last SG. It was a 2016 Standard. I bought it new from SW, and three of the inlays popped up by 2020, unfortunately. I was disappointed and sold it.

Cool photo. Did humidity cause the inlays to pop up?
Thanks! I don't know, really. I did move from dry NorCal to the wet Willamette Valley in Oregon during that time. I had quit my band, couldn't find others to play with, and so the SG stayed in it's case in the closet for most of late 2018-summer 2020. They had popped up during that time...in the case. I think whomever at Gibson that put in the inlays that day didn't use enough glue.
