• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Just picked this up today for my 19th birthday using some money I made from my first major tour earlier this month playing with Butch Trucks from the Allman Brothers. Pretty fitting gift to myself, I think.

I'm normally a Blackface Fender guy all the way. My main amp is an Alessandro 1/2AZZ head which is basically a beefed up Super Reverb and I also use a 1964 Deluxe Reverb with a JBL D120 in smaller rooms. However, after playing with Butch I got the itch for a Marshall or a good clone. I used to play 4-holers before I got into Fenders but haven't had one in a while. So I got back in town to Nashville and started looking for a good affordable vintage Marshall or clone. Usually Carter Vintage is where I buy almost everything (way too often) but they didn't have anything I was interested in from looking online. I decided to go in and see what they had anyway and ended up trying out a '74 JMP50 lead head, a Germino Lead 55, and a Park 50 watt reissue. After a lot of deliberation and some serious lust for a Park now, the '74 won out. It's a road dog but sounds great. I was worried it would be too gritty sounding but the normal channel nails Duane and Clapton and I can still get good enough cleans. I've owned some Germinos, Metros, and a Reinhardt but never a real Marshall and it kills. I'll try to get some videos or sound clips up of it today.

The pic is on top of my Alessandro open back 4x10 with two Neo speakers and two Ceramic speaker. It's my favorite cab and really cuts some low end and low mids from the amp but I also have a closed 4x12 Tone Tubby cab with their 40/40 speakers in it that this amp sounds incredible through. Normally I plug straight in but felt like getting my Band of Gypsys vibe on so I plugged in the NuVibe and Fuzzrite. SG is a Dickey Betts model in open E and the Kay is a '64 Vanguard in open D. Unfortunately my '53 conversion is in the shop so it'll be a little bit until I can plug that one in.

Looking forward to the videos/sound clips!
