Wow! I thought this post would have sparked a lot of discussion. Hmmm? 🤔

Neil Schon and "vintage guitar" don't seem to resonate in the same thread topic. He's had great success as a musician and composer, yes. When it comes to his guitar work, everything is quite processed (saturated), however, and his style is pretty-much rapid-fire scale work. These attributes are the listener's pill or poison based on personal taste but again, "vintage" is not intuitive in that realm. He's an unlikely ambassador for an old Fender or Gibson electric, but maybe just the guy for a PRS.

I'm not a vintage guitar expert, but I'd be interested to hear some opinions from those here who are in regards to his collection and if he's been sold some fakes. I've seen a few guitars on his Instagram lately that even to my untrained eye looked pretty suspect.

What are you seeing?

Have you guys seen the guitars that Neal has been buying on Instagram? :wow Everyday he posts something amazing from vintage LPs to Strats to Teles to Jazz Boxes to Private Stock PRS. I asked Neal if he was buying everything he always wanted or if he was starting a museum or exhibit. He never really answered. I love Neal's playing and Journey IMHO is a powerhouse no matter what the critics say.

Anyone have any insight on what he is up to? Gotta be up to a couple million in geetars already...:salude

Good to see cool guitars going to a player. Looks like he's trying to keep up with Joe B lol! I love to hear some of these plugged directly into a Plexi or a Tweed Twin amp.

His tone is too processed on the clips for my taste..can’t really hear the guitar...they all sound relatively the same because of that. No doubt a great player...but tone on these too processed.

Joe B & Mike Hickey have been helping him find some of this stuff based on some of Neal's posts. Likely saying; "Hey we passed on this, but maybe you'd like it", which put Neal in touch with some heavyweight dealers so he's be able to acquire stuff other than Joe's 'passes'. Just my take.

Love Neal. I think he's a mega player and an all around good guy with some serious chops and, lately, some killer acquisitions. A true player's player. He also commonly engages with his fans on social media, which I think is extremely cool.

One thing that slightly bugs me though, is when he posts those videos on Instagram of him sitting and playing beautiful guitar after beautiful guitar, his amp sound comes off as a tad bit static and it, in many cases, masks the actual tone of the guitar, IMO. Typically, it's a very saturated overdriven, bordering on heavy gain sound. Personally, when he's ripping on his Burst or his PRS' or Fenders, I'd love to hear the distinction between both guitars and their individual tonal characteristics. Just my $0.02!

Also, this is my first post here. Greetings from Toronto, folks! :)

Looks to me like there isn't even an amp involved. Might just be playing a plugin, since he goes to the laptop to adjust sounds.
