Need ABR1 Bridge Advice

I have recently realized that I cannot properly set the intonation on the low E string of my number 1 LP standard because the saddle does not have enough room to travel. I even flipped it to gain maximum travel space. The saddle is all the way back. The string needs to be a little longer. Man, I hate to put a Nashville bridge back on this guitar. Is there an ABR1 bridge replacement, or something that looks close, that offers more "saddle space"?

From researching LPF forum threads, I have just learned that lowering the tail piece may help. It is set pretty high. If that does not work, I will look into a Tonepros AVR2 bridge.

tons of things affect intonation...string brand, gauge and type (round core vs hex core), neck relief, also the tailpiece position. I'd try different things before swapping parts.

Elmore,

You've probably already thought of this, but check the position of the knife-edge of the saddle in question. If the knife-edge is closest to the neck-end of the guitar - ie not the side facing the stop bar - then one way of getting a little more adjustment is to reverse the direction of this individual saddle. Just a thought.

Regards,

Charlie.

Thanks, CharliePorter. Yes, I have already flipped the saddle to cause the flat side of it to become the side closest to the stop bar tailpiece. It does give a little extra room. It makes the string a little longer.

hello! i have put a tonepros avr2 on my r8 and it is much better

tighter tolerance, any room to move the saddle, and it's locking!

i just put it on top of the existing posts so i did that in no time, and it's completely reversible the day you want the abr1 back

if you want to keep your abr1, why not try to topwrap the strings, might help

As previously descibed, turn the saddle around it may work. Also push the whole bridge you will see it moves a little and this movemnt may provide enough play. The abr with slide on the saucer either way. I know this is just bad of Gibson to allow such a bad fit

Thanks for all the replies! I lowered the stop bar tail piece. It did give me more room and allowed for proper intonation. I would have never thought of this. What a forum!

The offset studs from Callaham could be handy too , but they're sold only with a bridge!
