Need experts PAF help

I have a chance to get a PAF from a 61 SG looks all original no rewind Double Blacks long magnets with original cover hav'nt put a meter on it. I was going to replace the neck on my JPP with this. I can get it for $1,500 do you think it is worth doing.

What should it read and is the price OK

For my own bad self, I think 1500 is a pretty good price, I'd probably get it. These things just aren't going anywhere but up. It ought to meter out at the high 7s to low 8s.

It's not mattered much in my experience. I only put 'em on the meter to rule out some insanely high or low reading, which would indicate a problem.

By '61, a PAF should have a short magnet... may be exceptions, of course.

Doesn't really matter, but typically you would put the hotter output one in the bridge position. That makes them more balanced when using both pickups.

Thanks Guys I assume hotter would mean lower resitance with regards to magnet length I assumed that was the actual thicness of the PUP is that correct?

NO! The hotter pickup will have HIGHER resistance.

My avatar R9 has almost 10k in the bridge and 8k in the neck.
(I love my neck pickup!)

Well I went for it 1700 Canadian it is authentic and it has Black on Black long mag, it came from a 61 Custom and reads 7.8 droped her in the Neck Position of my 05 Page and all I can say is wow!! The tone is amazing very bell like bright but not bite and very good definition on the low end. I know it may seem a little nuts to grab this for a JP but I love it and thats all that matters
