• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Need recommendations for "bedroom" tube amp

I have a few low wattsge amps (JTM1, JMP1, JCM1, JVM1, SL5)… but to be honest i only play through my Quad Cortex… and Kemper before that. Cannot beat the simplicity and they sound just as good as the real amps, or better as volume is not an issue and they can be run at their sweet spot at any volume.

My Supro Black Magick sounds great at low-bedroom volumes. I use my J-Rockett Dude for more gain. The Supro sounds big and retains bottom-end even at lower volumes.

I thought about buying a Black Magic, but ended up with a ‘65 Princeton Reissue, which I love. I may need both haha! Btw, what model is your LP? I love stripped down no-frills LP’s!

The Princeton is a great amp, I’ve owned a vintage ‘66 PR and a newer ‘68 Custom PR. Wish I never sold my vintage PR.

The guitar is a ‘79 Gibson “The Paul”. I has a Walnut body, T-Top Pickups, and an Ebony board. It is all original, except for the pick-guard. I have much more expensive Les Pauls, but this ‘79 seems to get the most comments.

Tone is no where cranked. Poor recommendation
Exactly! Anyone that says they use a 50-100w amp as bedroom? Is wasting the amps potential. Might as well get a Marshall merry king MG50 solid state amp. Has the same tone as a 50-100w tube amp on 1

Depends on the size of your bedroom and the benevolence of your family and neighbors.
After reading these threads for years, I've come to the conclusion that the sound we seek involves cooking preamp and output sections, overdriving the speaker and moving air.
This simply does not happen at low volume.
The best "bedroom" sounds come from modelers and pedals that are made to emulate the above.

Pair of Marshall stacks wide open. You don’t really like your neighbors anyway!

Most of the low-watt amps may still be loud for a tiny room. I would get something like Tonex on the computer and a good set of headphones or an Ox and buy whatever amp you want.

I have a pretty good-sized house but if I put a Champ in a bedroom and cranked it I would disturb everyone.

Would appreciate any recommendations for a tube amp that can be played at "bedroom" levels.

David Kowalski Dark Gene amp. 1/2 watt, sounds like a Marshall Plexi or JMP by turning dials. Under $400. I have one here mated with a closed back Scumback cab with an M75-PVC installed. You can hit your AC/DC power chord, listen to it swell into feedback and talk LOUDLY over it to your wife.

I use a marshall jcm800 50watt halfstack in my room. works great :dude
A schoolmate of mine had a full 100W Marshall stack, but it was a big bedroom in a big house - wealthy parents. That was back in the early '80s, so it was probably a JCM800?
