• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I purchased a new R9 and its the anniversary model...

I was just curious if anyone else has noticed any of the issues below with theirs?

1) The pickguard profile is lower and on mine the screw is extending past the bolt and right into the top (not good)
2) When I check the electronics I have the same old Fake Bumble Bee Caps not the new ones.
3) Not really an issue but when I looked under the pickups the neck pickup has the PAF sticker as I would expect. The bridge pickup has no sticker no nothing. I have never seen a Gibson pickup like it. Not a single marking on it... Kind of odd...

Was especially curious about 1 and 2....

You need to give that back and get them to sort those issues out. Now you have given the heads up I will be sure to fully investigate my new one when it arrives. Certainly taking the pickups out I wouldn’t have thought to do

I bought a 2019 r8. The cap’s do look like the old ones, but I don’t know that the new cap’s don’t look the same as the old ones. I started a thread here, asking if anyone could post a pic of the new PIO caps. My r8 was used at NAMM. I don’t know if that means it would surely have the new caps, or, as I’ve seen in the past, they weren’t quite available for the NAMM roll-out. The Les Paul does sound way different than others I’ve owned. Way clearer-doesn’t fuzz out. More twang. To my ear, it’s a big sonic change. The mud is gone.

The only thing about the caps is that I know the Emerson PIO BB replicas are sealed on the ends. I would expect these to be as well and they aren't (at least on mine)

Those are Luxe paper-in-oil capacitors (they are supposed to be in all 2019 Custom Shop Les Paul guitars).

My 2019 r8 has the new PIO caps. I’ll go out on a limb here and say, sonically, 2019 has made the biggest change from past Les Pauls. Other years may have offered new colors, part improvements etc. But the changes here in 2019 are substantial to the “sound” of the Les Paul. Unpotted p/u’s, better pots, PIO caps, correct wiring, may not be the sexiest changes, but in the long run, make this years models most worthy of serious consideration.

Easiest way to tell is the "sleeves" on the wires on either side of the cap. Luxe Bees have that dark brown sleeve. Fake Bees have yellow.

WHen I was replacing pre-2010 historic pups with Throbaks, I had more than 1 set that had absolutely no marking, sticker, decal...nothing, on the back. Made it really difficult to re-sell or even track which went to what.

Really? You would return a guitar for these "issues"?

1. The bracket can be bent to set the pick guard at any height from the top of the guitar that you want. Take a look at Bernie Marsden's, The Beast.

If that doesn't do it for you, pull the pick guard off with the bracket attached and hit the screw holding the pick guard to the bracket a few times with a file. Problem solved.

2. You didn't even know what the Luxe Bumble Bee caps look like yet you complained they were the fake ones. Maybe do a little research before you post.

3. PAF stickers fall off. The stickers on my Custom Buckers fell off when I pulled them out of my 2014 R8 to swap with SD Skinnerburst pickups. One of the Skinnerburst stickers fell off too. Didn't change the sound one iota.

Thanks Mr. Know it all and your 300 posts... This is the exact reason no one comes here anymore...

1) You don't know anything about whether I ever returned or had any intention of returning the guitar. I didn't
2) Rather then bending a bracket (this is what a mental midget would do) I used a dremel to gently fix the screw..
3) The reason I didn't know about the caps was because the new CEO in one of his interviews said no more fake bumble bees, so yeah, I was expecting that they would not look like the BB Caps. I came here to ask about them... Which is what this site used to be for... I will leave it at that.

Gaston, a gentleman, explained it to me and I thanked him for taking the time to share his information with me. I then said I had made a mistake.

4) As far as the pickups go... it wasn't just the sticker they look different and some of us who don't like them resell them... Ahhhh

Lastly Who was complaining? I was asking a question... Its kind of what forums are about no? Why am I even explaining myself to you?

Most importantly, I was posting it to warn those who have them to make sure the screw wasn't gouging their new tops... I have had this happen to LPs in the past and I didn't realizing it until it had gouged a nice hole in it... That's all ...

I already buffed it out, fixed the screw and recorded with it yesterday so thanks for the advice but kindly STFU if you have nothing to contribute....

When the CEO said no more fake BB's, he really meant no more fake BB's that were really film caps in a fake BB cover, the new ones are real BB clones that are PIO caps like the originals. Everyone on the forums called the old ones fake Bumblebees so that's why he used that term.
