Just picked up a transitional 64' Blackface Princetion w/63' 6G2 circuit. With white nobs!!! Sounded pretty good the way it came. But.......after I found myself in the amp parts. I put in a RCA 5V4 rectifier for 415 Vdc on the plates. It came with Sylvania 6v6's. Also took out the Oxford 10K5 ( yes I know it is suppose to have a 10j something. Remember transitional. Installed a Mojo Tone P10R. Just one tube and one speaker really opened this thing up. Also added warm feelings thru out.....:lol

That's COOL! So it's the same circuit as the brown Princeton's? Those are great amps.

I bought a '64 6G2 creme knob Princeton this summer and it's hands down the best sounding amp I've owned in 25 years. Nice score! Mine still has the original tubes in it and they still sound great.

Thanks for all the input. It is amazing with the right tubes and speaker what this thang sounds like now from when I bought it. I have a Telefunken smooth plate 7025 in V1. A Telefunken ribbed plate 12ax7 in V2. Sylvania 6v6's and a Sylvania 5V4 rectifier. I installed the 5v4 rectifier last nite from the RCA. They both test good but I thought the power tubes may get along with there own kind better:ganz With my R9 and some great pickups this thang screams. Great harmonic feedback when wide open. Yes this is a brownface circuit in a blackface cab. The voltages in the amp are blackface to. I was looking at the schematic for a 6G2 and the voltages are alot lower. I will have to put in a 5Y3 to see if they go down. But I do not think they will go down that much. Also all original parts and trannies. Installing a 5V4 instead of a 5y3 is a cheap and great improvement to most amps. For those who do not know. Thanks again for looking!

hi ptrickamp!
i´ve got one just like it - sweet amps!
i made a 12" baffle for mine and i use it when i feel the need for a bit more "oomph" with the band - it sounds sweet with a jensen p12q/c12q!

cheers - 68.

Nice pix-you can smell the roasting dust/electric smell of old tube amp.
Right up there w/70's MRC train transformer as one of those smells that "takes you back"....

Yes, that 6G2 circuit is the end all for me. My main giging rig is a home brew 6G2. I beefed up the phase inverter a bit so that it won't start distorting before the power section. see Paul C. Mod I also upgraded the OT to a Fender Deluxe OT and am running 2 Rev. Alltone 10" speakers at 4 ohms. With my R7 and the Volume on the amp at about 2 o'clock...TONE OF THE GODS!!!

hi bluesfrodan!
given that these were only made for a little more than a year, i´m actually surprised at how often you see these on the bay and elsewhere!
i think they usually go for a little less than a brownface princeton (think $600-900 depending on condition).

sorry, i can´t answer that... i usually just check for "princeton" in the fender-amp section...

it´s possible that there are none this week or the next, but if you keep looking, i´m sure you´ll find some.

This is in pristine condition with original Oxford 10K5 speaker which is supposed to be a 10J something, Transitional model have sometimes weird stuff in them. Also has blackface tremelo circuit. All stock. Original resistors and caps. I installed the P10R Mojo Tone for free. In my amp parts from years back. Really softened the amp up and sounds great!! The price was just under 900.00. From reputable collector. Thanks!!

I was going to do the same thing. But got the amp and tried it. Installed a good 5V4 and a P10R and it sounds so good I'am going to leave alone.....thanks!!

I'am looking for that combo right now! It looks like a 12in has plenty of room to spare. Let me know, Thanks!!

hi ptrickamp!
yes, a 12" will fit - no problem!
i did the baffle myself and it cost me next to peanuts and an hour or so of my time.

only last week i re-mounted the 12"-baffle after using the amp stock for a while and so far i´m very happy with the added punch and clarity of the bigger speaker.

cheers - 68.
