• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

New PAF´s partnership between Led and Doyle...opinions?

After watching that video I found nothing inspiring about those pups.

The reverb was a distraction as well as the overdrive for the most part and also focusing on just the neck and middle positions.

I would have liked to have heard the guitar played through a clean amp in all positions and with variations of the tone knobs.

I also would have liked to have heard the guitar before the switch and then after.

I will say that yeah, not alot of mud goin' on there but then I'd want to listen to the guitar jacked into a for true mud machine...like a tweed deluxe!

To me that would be a truer test of how those pups tame major mud flappage and vibrating meat curtains in a tweed deluxe.

The demo on Doyle's site is better / cleaner.

They sound pretty good, but very pricey - especially if you add in their wiring harness.

Maybe its the amp (probably the amp) but I'd stay 10 miles away from those pups *based upon that video*. Craptone.

These are different. They come in a wooden collector's box. It's a once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity, but wait, there's more, if you call within the next 18 minutes....

If I played a guitar that sounded like that I'd assume something was broken.

The pups might have worked for Les or Doyle but I prefer more meat to my sound

I agree. I don't want to cut down somebody's work but the sound is thin.

The video helped me to make sure I'll never buy Egnater amps. I also checked a video on Doyle's website in which he gives some insight about his relationship with Les Paul and say that he achieved what Les was dreaming of (pickup wise).
Well Les Paul can't testify that, and I think his explanation is very confusing, constantly switching from Les dream pickup to how close the tru-clone are to the original PAF (hence the name). I find it hard to buy that Les was dreaming about just an original PAF, (with no muddyness), and even if that was true, with all due respect, I would care less about Les Paul dream than anyone else goal to achieve a true PAF replica with the proper knowledge.
All this just sounds like some cheap marketing for very expensive pickups IMHO.
So I'll pass. :)

Hey guys, just to spice up a bit I will play the devil's advocate here.

Are the pu's that awful? At the website you can check better sound examples.

I've checked the GuitarProShop video and listen to the site samples and I think they sound dam good! Don't like the video you posted, don't like the marketing shit, but yeah they sound really good on Max Stavron samples.
But for that kind of cash, I'll try the Klein PAF first.

The PGS video is much better. The pickups are too bright for my taste. I'm sure they'll work great for some people.

I think Les would have hated the sound of that first clip. I do too.

I agree with cosmitron, the explanation of the thinking behind the product is really confusing. Is this a pure PAF clone, or is it something new? How can it be both?

Yeah, another flavor of the month for the boutique club. The Doyle pickup is pricy, though I'm intrigued with its claims for clarity in the sound.

Even if someone comes up with "ulitmate" PAF replica, they are going to be some players that can make make it sound terrible because they're lousy players.
