Check these out and let me know what you think. The Mains was bent and realigned. The numbers look stock. Also own a Dr Z Airbrake by Ken Fisher. Used it on a lot of amps no Probs. Dr Z says that Lenny Kravtiz used 6 airbrakes for 2 yrs no Problems. But........what do you Vintage Marshall owners think and use?????? Thanks for any input!!!

the xicon's look suspiciously identical to George's? (Metroamp)

Are you referring to the filter caps??? Or the screen resistor's. I would have added those anyway and the bias resister's and filter caps. I am a strong believer in changing out caps on old amps that is. Filter and cathode and bias. Couplin a NO....NO. Unless blown or leaking, Thanks!!!

He's referring to the screen resistors on the power tubes.

I am picking it up today. I am asking is the mains original???? The numbers look original. Also is it OK to use a Dr Z Airbrake on a older Marshall. What do you Vintage owners use for a attenuator if you use one???? Thanks!!! I use the Airbrake on alot of different amps with no problems. Read previous for Dr Z quote's.

Mains = Power Transformer.

Those trannies look fine - what would be wrong with those?

Tranny looks good to me as well - both physically and the numbers - although I remember someone said it was suspect in your other post.

As far as attenuators go - I personally prefer THD Hotplates. I've got a Z Airbrake as well but, I like the tone and versatility of the Hot Plate much better.

I'm not used to seeing the mains having that size/font for the numbering on it but the mains and output look to be the same basic age. The lettering on the output is typical. Whatever the case on the PT/mains, the OT looks to be original and if it sounds great, like a '72 should, play the hell out of it. I too replace filter caps if they are bad and the Xicon screen grid resistors can be bought anywhere. I think I bought 100 last time I got some just because they are too cheap to only get a couple, heck the shipping was more than the resistors. Great amp by the way.

I just got it and plugged her in. R9>Boss RV-2 Reverb>Y cord inputs 1&2>2x12 custom open back>Celestion Heritage 20watters>4ohm load. Bass 8, Treble 7, Presence 8.5, Mid 6.5, Vol 1 at 4 & Vol 2 at 4. This is the "God of Marshall".......This thing Kills!!!!!! I am talking about hard Rock. Great feedback, harmonics & overtones!!!! There is no need for pedals with this thing. I do not know what my neighbor will think. But will try the OCD Ver 1 or BOR > Fatboost > Dan Echo > RV-2 > Y cord. I have a 1936 cab coming Wed that I am putting in 15 ohm Celestion Heritage 20 watters for the closed back option. Also have a 1x12 deep cube half open back w/Celestion Gold I will definitely try and blow this up!

Also what about the attenuators????? Are they approved by the Vintage Marshall experts here????? Also what to use to clean the Tolex???? I will use wood glue and painters tape for the small tolex tears. Thanks for all the input. The Mains Tranny is as big as my head!!!! That thing is huge!
Also have not put my Mullard XF2's or the Mullard preamps in yet!!!! The amp came with Edicron EL-34 and ERA ECC83 in it. found that Edicron is in the UK and the ERA are Tesla ECC83's!

What are you talking about the .68 on the cathode resistor???? Don't know but I think it doesn't need it. I just played it and it sounds like the "God of Marshall"
Yes, the .68. This should thicken up the midrange. May be hard to find a mustard.

What year is that one??? I use the .68 on my homemade JTM 50 on V2. Also just put a Mercury Mag O5OJM Output in it. Really came alive!

Is your JTM 50 a bass model? JTM 50 didn't have the .68.

No I built it in a 64 Blackface Concert amp. It was not pristine and missing the output tranny and the speakers and baffle. So about 15 yrs ago I built it using spare parts and a few bought parts. I used a Vibrolux Reverb Power Tranny for the rectifier and enough current to run 2 x el-34's in a blackface twin output tranny. Mallory 150 Mustard Caps and Sprague filter and cathode caps. Built a baffle for 2x12's. So I ran a 8ohm load into it. So it thought it saw 4ohm. I just put the MM 050JM output into it. Really smokes now!!! Also have two 65 watt Celestion's that have been reconed to 25 watter's. Back then you could not get 65 watt cones anymore. Had them rebuilt from a authorized Celestion rebuilder. This is one great sounding amp. Used all the old wiring and all the trick's to safe guard it. Fuse on the output center tap. Diodes on the power tubes for tube failure. I started out with a middle sixties circuit and changed the V1 to a 2.2uf cap and V2 with the .68 and hand picked each NOS tube in each position to get the best tone. It's a screamer.......

Just measured the amp current on the plates....a little cold, so I just put in a matched set of Siemens at 65% will give her another test tomorrow and see what happens. Also need to find a better UK AC cable and a original .68 cap if any one has any let me know, Thanks!!
