• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I'm working on a new project, and I was curious if anybody wanted or would be interested in having me take pictures along the way?? I'd post them up on one of the picture sites for all to see.

What I was thinking was taking pictures of the chassis work, cabinet work including covering and fitting the baffle, right down to the finishing work.

(I'll have to first clean up my home shop tho, it's a pig sty!)

What I'm going to build is a cathode-biased KT66 ultra-linear OT based, JTM 45 front ended 32w combo. based on a 5F8 high powered tweed Twin chassis, in black Marshall levant with Fender silver sparkle grill cloth. A real mongrel!! (Actually extra parts left over from various projects)

*OR* I'm building another low-powered tweed Twin and I can do the same on that one too.. except I could show some tweed work. (how to cut the corners, all the little details, and show my "secret" tweed aging formula... )

And as an added bonus, I'll take pictures when I fire one them up and it bursts into flames and totally guts my garage. :lolspin

Just an idea.. It'll take a while, but I could post 'em while I make progress..

Yeah lets see the pics!
If your shops messy, just do like I do and drag the project into the house!
I'd love to learn about that amp stuff. Especially the covering part.

I look forward to it if you're up for it Dave, and being pestered by stupid questions as you go... :)

Hey, it's my way of giving back to all the folks who answered my "stupid" questions way back when..

The only stupid question is the one that's unasked... :lolspin

Ok then!

What does "damping" mean?
What are slope resistors?

I can't think of any more at the moment, I'll get back to you! :)

Dampening is taking energy out of vibrations. Just like the shock absorbers in your car. The slope resistor is that resistor before the caps in the tone stack. Changing its value affects the slope of the frequency response. Those questions aren't dumb at all.

In spite of Sean's protests, i don't think he knows how to ask a dumb question.

Thanks for that, Unmensch. How about screen resistors, what are *they*?

I'll stop soon, promise.... :)

Screen resistors are the resistors that control the screen of your television... :)

No, screen resistors are the resistors that attach to the screen grid on the output tubes, they keep the current down on the screens themselves.. You'll usually find them on pins 4 and 6 on the output tube sockets.
