• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

New scam method?

Came upon this auction... READ THIS ENTIRE POST BEFORE CHECKING IT OUT!

http://cgi.ebay.com/1962-Stratocast...353211556QQcategoryZ47069QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It sounds good with the "local pickup only" option; makes it sound far more legit.
However, the "more info/pics" link requires you to sign in with user name and password... even though I'm ALREADY signed in.

Looks like a phishing expedition to me.
Looks like it might be directing you to a page OUTSIDE eBay that looks like eBay's sign-in page.

If someone can explain how this could possibly be legit, I'm all ears... until then, I'd advise anyone to beware!

Yes, that's phishing (look at the link). I bet it's a hijacked account.
And the hijack is done good, because the seller sold music gear before, instead of teddy bears and stuff. The auction looks different than in the past though.

Being an IT guy I think I know network security (I am typing on a Windows machine but all my data moves through a Linux firewall) and I never fell for a scam or got phished or even got a virus on my computer but I am curious which tactics those online criminals use.

Over the last weeks I got a few new ebay scams in my mailbox that were different. The messages looked like authentic "contact seller" emails from ebay where the sender accused me of not responding to emails about an auction he won or something and he will call the police, blahblah.
Sure enough, checking out the ebay handles showed accounts that were either not valid anymore or not active for a long time.
I did not click any links in those emails, but I bet they were going "somewhere else".

Local pickup to Cairo, Nebraska ???

Pretty safe bet the other 3 people in Cairo, Nebraska
won't be looking for this piece

no shipping, OK they can't hit him for mail fraud,
which is Federal

He would have to deal with the legendary Cairo Police Dept

and clicking on that link takes you to webboodle.com

below is the ISP, if someone is interested in reportin him
