• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I like the basic AC30 tone a lot. I've owned several AC30 combos over the years, including a 1965 top boost and some more recent reissues. They were all pretty good in my opinion, and were different than anything else. I find these amps sound best pushed loud in a band situation. What doesn't really sound that great to my ear when you are playing by yourself, just sounds tremendous and powerful in the mix. AC30's cut through in just the right way.

I've wanted to try a combo head/cab AC30 for a long time. I'd be curious what you or anyone else thinks about the CC version too. I've noticed you can pick them up pretty cheap.

The new models are beautiful also as I was in a dealer shop yesterday and saw one in red and one in white. They are gorgeous especially the white one.

I gigged a repro (Korg/Marshall) AC30 for several years and it was definitely up to the job, both physically and sonically. All I did was make an important filter capacitance reduction and install Ei glass, which 'vintaged' the sound significantly.

The AC30CC seems to be an intelligent effort to give a bit of added versatility of the amp without altering or coloring its original character. I've not played one at length, but this worthwhile video illustrates and demonstrates some nice touches, such as channel blending, added tonal options, the bias selector and filter capacitance selector:

As always, two important keys to getting 'that sound' are the speakers - alnico blues in an open cab, and good glass.

Matt, I had one (combo with Celestion Blues) for a brief while when they first came out several years ago, and it sounded awesome. :hank
