• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hey y’all, just picked up an ebony ‘92 Studio, pretty cool guitar but way lighter than my Standard, were they doing weight relief back then or is it just lightweight wood? The pickups are pretty low / Med output 7.8 neck / 7.9 bridge, i’ll guess they are ‘57s unless somebody knows different. All in all sounds pretty good, anybody else out there have any luck with ‘90s Studios?

Early 90's Studios are awesome. Pickups would be 490r/498t.

I had a '93 or '94 studio in white with an ebony fretboard and gold hardware. It was a really nice playing and sounding guitar. The pickups were 490r/498t as noted above.

Thanks guys. This guitar has pickups measuring 7.8 and 7.9 K, so they are definitely not 498T. I notice that one of the pickups (7.9K) has a back plate stamped Gibson, and the other doesn't. It looks a lot similar but just not the stamp. Did Gibson ever make pickups in the 7.8K range without stamping them?

Does the difference in thickness between a LP Standard and Studio account for the weight difference, or is there another factor? Not weight relieved?

Thanks!
