• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Just taken this beauty home to my collection and had some action with her. I'm pleased so far. Body is good and have a sweet singing voice. Anymore a man can ask for? Good wood galore.

The stock pickups sound meh, but can you imagine this sweety with some nice PAFs, how she would go wild in the most pleasant way?

Sounds good thru that JMP!

So someone put covers on the stock ceramics? Any other mods?

Seems like your snotty greens aren't so heinous as mine are, or perhaps a result of light and photo.

Congrats, enjoy in good health. šŸ‘

I gigged my '71 with Antiquities last night.
Into a '64 outboard Reverb and '56 Deluxe pushed into the sweet spot.
Heavenly.
Chicken skin tone.

Yes, nickel covers. I would always do this mod to Classics, they can look really authentic with just some varnished covers. No mods.

The inlays are not so green. It's kind of light golden green, somewhat similar to some of the old Bursts' inlays how they aged. Those bright neon green inlays can be bad on Classics.

My 2000 gold top are... not good. I had little choice, it was the only lefty Les Paul model I could find back then.

And now I hem and haw, should I keep it As-Is or use as a mod platform and do all manner of things with it?

If it's a keeper I'd change the inlays to retro celluloid. It's not such a month long blood sweat and tears kinda work as some luthiers like to advertise it. Find one that's honest and do it.

Congrats! Looks nice! I had a couple 2000-2002 Classics. Put in 500K pots and Ruskie paper in oil caps, along with some good PAF copies. They sounded really nice, looked great. Unfortunately, I couldn't get along with the slim-taper necks.

Yeah the slim neck is a bummer. Older 90s-00s Classic 1960's would be the perfect Les Pauls. Thin binding, Abr-1 bridge, some nice authentic finishes, great fretboards (Madagascar most of the times), 1-piece South American mhaogany body and necks, Eastern maple on the plain top versions, correct 50s style serial numbers, etc. If Gibson offered an 50s neck version, it coulda been heaven.

The wood is great on this one. I put on some nickel covers, but the pickups must be the original ceramics (Gibson logo engraved on the baseplate) or at least 498T @ 490R. I don't like them neither. But the basics are all there and electronics can be replaced.

ah. I guess I didn't know if you did the covers or not. Yeah, some antiquities, or full strength '59/Seth Lovers would sound great in there.

Seriously, I am considering that, and a refin and a total electronics change out, including pickups. Just have to mull it over, that's a project for another day. Or, I will leave it as-is for sentimental reasons, it being my first Lester, and call it a day.
