Just picked up this 2016 Trad T from Guitar Planet, in Ochanomizu.

The tops on these 2016's are great and the necks are a big step down on size, compared to the 2013's and 2014's. Sorry for the crap mobile pic.

Good job, Gibson.

Beautiful axe! They must be sending the better 2016 Trad tops to Japan. I recently posted on this Forum that, in my opinion, there are too many mediocre tops out there right now on the 2016's!

Congrats! And HNGD!!!! Honey Burst? I love my 2016 Honey Burst Trad T and it has a great top (sorry Kutt:spabout). I have seen several in person and all but one had what I would consider very nice tops. That said, I have seen some online that aren’t as great as well. BUT… honestly, that’s true of every model year… some tops are great, some not so much. Pretty typical actually.

Anyway, as for the 2016 Trad T necks... I measured mine with some digital calipers... 0.836" & 0.987" at the 1st & 12th frets respectively (which is a little fatter than Gibson specs them out to be on their website [which is 0.828"/0.973"]). These specs are firmly in the 50s profile family, but are significantly less chubby than my 2014 Trad which is 0.913" & 1.013" (again, 1st & 12th frets respectively). It seems they are going for more of a 59 carve on the 2016s, whereas the 2013s & 2014s were more of a fat 58 carve. Regardless, they are great guitars. Love mine… I’m sure you’ll love yours too! :)

Tokyo Mike...I just noticed your Trad has gold reflector knobs (instead of the gold speed knobs) and it appears your has an amber toggle switch tip (instead of the normal cream one). Did you change these out? Or did the dealer? Or is this just how the sell them in Japan? Just curious because over here in the USA the 2016 Trad Ts get gold speed knobs and a cream tip. :)

I changed the knobs, switch and truss rod cover. Just prefer that look.

I have four sets of speed knobs sitting in a container.

I saw about 40 to 50 2016's, most of the tops I saw had nice flame. The most plain top was on trans amber Standard. One Trad honey burst had the deepest flame I had ever seen, which I was ready to grab. It even had a flamed back. Unfortunately, the binding looked like it was shaved by a five year old.

Haha! Makes sense. I've switched out the speed knobs on both of my Trads for gold top hats... so I get it!:)

Yeah, I've put the amber switch tip on too... and a blank truss rod cover... and some nickel pointers (to go along with the previously mentioned gold top hats). Also, I have a Creamtone nickel ABR-1 bridge and tailpiece waiting to go on her once the Tyson Tone Labs TTL-1 PAF boutique humbuckers I ordered last month arrive (should be any day now). Gonna make her into my poor man's R9! :hank

Thinking about the Creamtones, myself. Think I'll go with the aged.

Something very similar is what I'm looking for right now. How are the necks for reaching your thumb over the top for bar chords. I have always had a problem with that and it sure comes in handy when you need all your other fingers for something else.

I have smallish hands and don't have a problem.
