• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Long time Les Paul fan, and have been playing on a Epiphone LP since 1994.
I never found myself 'good enough' for a real Gibson, but with my 50th birthday coming up, my wife actually had no problem with me finally acquiring one. I always liked faded tops, with a 'modest' flame and some mineral streaks, but (as everybody knows) it's sort of looking for a needle in a haystack to actually find 'the one'. Last year I found a 2018 Custom Shop Historic R9 in Honey Lemon Fade VOS, weighing in at 8.7lbs. Had to buy it online, but made sure I could return it if I didn't like it in real life.
That was not necessary, I liked the top and it played and sounded fantastic. So after checking and playing it for about 5 minutes in October last year, I had to store it on the attic (hidden from the kids!) for about 7months...

Today I turned 50 and could finally officially 'unbox' it...
I'm a happy camper!

(and sorry, the phone picture is a bit crappy)

HNGD!!! Enjoy her in good health and for MANY more years to come. One question tho: How in the hell were you able to play a dream guitar, then store it away for 7 MONTHS and NOT go insanely crazy??? You’re a better man than I. I don’t know if I could’ve done it!lol congrats, bro!

Thanks! I was not easy indeed, and I did occasionally look at it...

"You're not playing with the guitar, right...?"
"No no, I'm watching pr0n!"
"Oh, then it's ok"

Congrats! Looks really nice.
You are a very patient man waiting 7 months to unbox it.

That's just gorgeous. And a nice bit of weathered patina.
But you kept that thing in the attic???? Hope you have temperate weather where you live.

Yeah, the temperature was ok.
It came out without weather checking ;-)

Great looking R9. Can't believe you were able to have it sitting there so close and for so long w/o playing it. I would have gone crazy.

That is immodest flame. In your face, a "here-look-at-my-tits", street trollop, let-you-touch-them-for-$5 top.
If you don't like your playing you need to turn it up.
Happy Birthday. I like your guitar.
Don't get the "you have to wait for your birthday" thing though- life is ridiculously short. Play the crap out of it.
