Long time Les Paul fan, and have been playing on a Epiphone LP since 1994.
I never found myself 'good enough' for a real Gibson, but with my 50th birthday coming up, my wife actually had no problem with me finally acquiring one. I always liked faded tops, with a 'modest' flame and some mineral streaks, but (as everybody knows) it's sort of looking for a needle in a haystack to actually find 'the one'. Last year I found a 2018 Custom Shop Historic R9 in Honey Lemon Fade VOS, weighing in at 8.7lbs. Had to buy it online, but made sure I could return it if I didn't like it in real life.
That was not necessary, I liked the top and it played and sounded fantastic. So after checking and playing it for about 5 minutes in October last year, I had to store it on the attic (hidden from the kids!) for about 7months...
Today I turned 50 and could finally officially 'unbox' it...
I'm a happy camper!
(and sorry, the phone picture is a bit crappy)
