• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Arrived a couple of days ago, a 2020 Bouron Burst R8. Quite flamey for an R8 with some mineral streaks, just a whisker over 9lbs.

Last R8 I had was a 2016 so the unpotted Custombuckers sound more lively and open, the narrow tall frets feel nice, I think I prefer them to med/jumbo. What's with the new wiring harness? The tone control doesn't; do much 10-5 then kicks in all of a sudden?

Oh that is nice! Congratulations!

What do amp do you run through, any issues with unpotted pickups? Just curious - only heard good things about the unpotted custombuckers.

Yep, Mesa Boogie Mark V 35. The unpotted Custombuckers sound very good, more open sounding than the potted ones I had in a 2016 R8, but still fat and snarly through the drive channel when required, the wiring harness/pots work nicely with the pickups, the pots have a different taper to the 2016 model.

One of my favourite tones is through the clean channel of the Boogie with a bit of King Tone Duellist (Heavy Hand side) for a nice bluesy light breakup on the neck pickup, that PAF hollow scoopy sound really comes through. I switch to the bridge pickup and channel 2 Mark IV mode with gain at 10:00 o clock and it's a very solid classic rock roar.

She’s gorgeous! Congrats. So how are you liking the recent narrow/talls? I was about to buy a 2021 58 but I’m considering going for a 59 due to the fretwire. Have you measured their height?

Congrats again.

Congrats, I love bourbon with flecks, and peek-a-boo flame. The rest of the clan are great too, love the blue. Enjoy in good health! 🍑

Hi,

The frets are fine, they are narrower than the '59s but plenty tall enough for bending with vibrato without any issues at all. I haven't measured them.

Thank you for the reply! Are they actually taller than the medium jumbos then? A friend told me it feels narrower but with basically the same height.
