In 2015 when Gibson released the CC Blackburst I had a moment in the trouser area that simply would not go away, so I felt I had no choice but to run down to my dealer and order one. They actually got it to store shortly after, and I was blown away by the guitar. It did, unfortunately, come with a price tag waaaaaay more than what I was given the impression of, and I could quite simply not justify the investment at that time and had to let her go. A year later they got the same guitar in for commission, but I was too late and it sold again. Then, some time later, I was picking up a lovely R7 Blacktop from a guy who had the Blackburst hanging on his wall. I told him that if he ever was going to sell it he had to call me first, and a few days ago I finally got the call. Third time around, and she's finally mine.
So, "my" 2015 Les Paul CC#4 Blackburst was actually set up a bit strange. Both the bridge and (in particular) the tailpiece where set unusually high, and the strings seemed to be fitted by a monkey with arthritis - two of them would not even stay tuned at all. Odd, for such a nice guitar. Even odder, it still played fantastically. Anyway, I cleaned the thing, lowered the studs for the tailpiece all the way, and restrung it wraparound-style. I'll have my luthier look over it next time I need something, but for now she's just about the sweetest thing ever. I also have a CC#4 Sandy, and they're a bit different in character. Sandy's a bit more aggressive and will scream like a banshee when pushed (which is fitting, since she's a lady:spabout), and mr Black is smoother and more understated. They actually are a perfect match for me.
