So.. I was looking at multiple different gold tops.. from True Historic’s (again) to Brazilian boards and Historic Makeovers.. all of which were in the 6k range.. (sigh).. given that I sold a TH GT aged in my guitar purge.. (and regretted it) I was resigned to the fact that I would have to “pay up” for anything remotely similar (or better).

Then I happened upon a mint 60th Anniversary GT on Reverb.. in Sweden from a reputable guitar store.. tbh I had forgotten about this limited run, which I believe was 60 of each version released in 2017

The price was in the ball park for these anniversary models.. but what really took my eye was the top carve.. which was really “dishy”.. and this was one thing that i was disappointed with with the TH.. so.. I put in a low ball (but decent) offer.. which was declined.. oh well..

The next day I contacted the store directly and gave the same offer outside of reverb .. which saves them the sellers fees.. and within 5 mins they replied “ok!” .. the price in comparison to the TH’s and Braz board was 1/2 the price.. and it has all the appointments of a TH.. all be it with the gross truss rod cover, which inevitably will be replaced.

Wow… so I asked for an invoice inc postage.. which wasn’t too bad.. but then I realised .. that I would incur a 20% import duty into the UK. which would’ve pushed the guitar back close to the original asking price. Pffft..

So.. me being me and quite literally being an “off the cuff” reactionary type.. thought.. right.. I’ll book a flight over and collect it myself.

I asked if they would meet me at the airport in Stockholm* .. which Fredrik kindly said “yeah sure”..(!?)
* correction Gothenburg

So I booked a flight ✈️ (got a really cheap ticket)

The plan is to fly in.. meet up.. secure the guitar and fly back on the same aircraft an hour later ..

So.. I’m on a guitar adventure on Monday 9th..

😬

I’ll update on the day..

Bonjour.

Cool.

Would love to see that special Pearl Gold finish with the pearlescent sparkle added.

Yes, ditch that TRC into the case for a historic one... and enjoy your trip!

Pics of the adventure as well. Bonus if you have an actual guitar case hand-off pic from inside the terminal. Double bonus if you are wearing an Indiana Jones hat in that pic.
I’ll do my best.. 🤓

Triple bonus, if Swedes pose gawking at it.

Quadruple, if they are munching on traditional Nordic fare, with some creamed, pickled herring.

Very cool. Hope you get to spend at least a few hours in Stockholm, it's a lovely place!
I won’t unfortunately as the aircraft leaves an hour after landing back to Blighty .. I have been there before though..

So after the fact.. I was thinking… so I just told the guy “I’ll meet you at the airport” which he said ”ok”..

but wait.. airports are massive..!?
with 1000s of people walking about.. !!?
How will we know where to meet..!?
My plane leaves an hour after landing!?
What if I can’t find him standing there with only a lifton case as my visual clue!?

So.. I’ve drawn up and battle plan down to the minute with a detailed map of the airport and where to meet - “(redacted)” ! And sent it to the guy..

he replied “cool - see you at {redacted}”

I’m a nervous wreck..

Oh and btw.. this is the guitar:
