• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hi There, it's been a while I didn't check the forum. Good to be back.

I have a double neck coming home in a few days. 1992, very good condition, except the case which has quite a few tears.
Surprisingly it has ABR bridges and mahogany necks... which I like better :)

I searched high and low but couldn't source a replacement case. I know it's TKL, so i'd rather keep it that way, and I know TKL cases are made by Boblen, but still, couldn't find anything

Does anybody have the TKL ref. number for that case, or a viable replacement case from another brand?

P.S.: I remember that a NGD thread should come with pictures, and I'll do as soon as the guitar (and a half) is there!

I'm picking up the beast over the weekend, and will post a few obligatory pictures :)

Does anyone have a clue what this (these) bridges are, and what pickups should be in the guitar?

The bridges look like ABRs but they seem to have the Nashville-like posts... they actually look like the new Tune-o-matic bridge Gibson has been using these past few years, but the owner/seller, bought it 20 years ago and hasn't touched it since.

These are the owner/seller's pics, and yes, there's a broken G string...

Went to pick her up today. 500 miles round trip :(

It’ll need a lot of TLC because it’s been left in a garage for 20+ years, but no breaks or anything. Just light oxydation, and dust, gunk, and even two dead flies in the case! Major neck adjustment as well. Enormous neck relief, unplayable. The 6 strings side adjusted almost 100% pretty easily, but the 12 strings side is going to be more difficult. Truss rod nut is already pretty tight and it seems some paint/glue is in there as well…
Everything seems legit but I’m a bit surprised to see the serial number and “made in USA” are slightly crooked. Centered but crooked. Serial # dates the guitar as 1st December 1992, which matches a stamp in the pickup cavity and pot codes (CTS, 44th week of 1992).
Cavity routes, nibs on the bindings, nitro lacquer, pickups etc… all authentifies it as a Gibson. I have no doubt.
Not sure what these ABR-like bridges are. Seems like they replaced the original Nashville’s. ABR Pat N° ?

Here are a few photos as I got it home. Will post a separate thread once cleaned, setup etc…

You probably already know this, but I would adjust the neck with the strings off. Get that pressure off the truss rod, maybe even let it sit for a bit for things to normalize. Then adjust the rod and restring. Obviously you'd still have to do some fine-tuning, but as long as you're in the neighborhood, you shuold be fine.
Nice plank, though. How heavy is she?

That’s pretty much what I did. I managed to get the 12 strings side to a reasonable setup. Plays fine. The 6 strings adjusted perfect and plays great!

It’s much lighter than I expected it would be. I didn’t weight it on a scale yet, but a guesstimate, compared to some other of my guitars which I know the weight, I would say 10,8/11 Lbs.

Wild.joz, what gauge strings are you using for the 12? How is bending with the 12? Thanks in advance!

I used the standard D’addario 12 strings. I believe there’s only one gauge available.
this one:

The 6 strings side has 11-49s

bending is just fine on the Es, Bs and Gs, but it’s not something I do a lot on that neck…

Thanks!
Bending two .010 strings sounds like it might be a challenge!
There are other (not D'Addario) sets available: https://www.sweetwater.com/c926--12-string_Electric_Guitar_Strings
I imagine the .008 super slinky set might be fun. Hmmm....

As far as the bridges go , they could have conversion posts and the thumbwheels on the body could be there to cover up the conversion posts as you would be able to see this clearly and this could be an explanation ?

After some research, it appears they are Pat. Number ABR bridges, which fit on Nashville posts… another Gibson oddity…
